hey everybody., some of you might know that ive been working on several maps and most of all bugging the crap out of spike in the sdk section to get my skills up to par. so anyway i think im at a good enough spot that i can actually do something that i can release. all the maps ive started on so far lack something and i consider all my work so far to be homework. they arent worth finishing or releasing at all. the last one i started looks better of course but like i said all of them are missing something. A CONCEPT. so what im asking you guys is throw some ideas at me ., im curious as to what the community would want and actually play. i have tons of ideas but not sure which direction to head in. A few ideas ive had so far.., bank ~ been done already but i dont know how well school ~ this is one of my favorites, i could do tons with this The white house ~ yes the real white house, i already have floor plans. could be intresting. The Mines ~ totally dark map., must use nv to be able to play so as u can see im not doing to well on the idea department although the white house is sounding more and more intresting by the day. the problem here is custom textures. im still learning but im sure its not to complicated. <shrug> aight fellas lemme have it., |

I think you should do the whitehouse! If I could map, I would have started it already...(and I suggested it ages ago in the sdk forum) - but I don't have the time for it (that game is too much fun, #### you raven ) What could be cooler than stealing the briefcase from the presidents desk... |

Hmm be careful your map not to be only a concept. What I mean by that is a good map isn't only a theme or a key trick but has a great deal to do with how players will "flow" in it. How and where they will fight (bottlenecks); timing; spots to jump from or bounce nades... You can control all of that and should to make your map fun or otherwise you will be pretty down to luck... but I'm getting carried away a bit ;) In your ideas I'd drop the NV one... it's just a trick. Maybe some will have fun with it but it'd bore most people IMO and wouldn't make your map popular. The bank thing is a bit vague here... What I'd like to see in a bank map is a real detective or B-movie atmosphere... Chairs upside down, cameras, get-away cars and/or cop cars "parked" in a mess in front of the entrance... Your street-corner bank being robbed kinda, a bit like I'd picture the banks in the game Driver . The school thing have been done and the map released not long ago... It was a highschool map. mp_finne? I can't recall. The risk with that theme is making a repetitive map because of the many classrooms. The White House could be cool... I don't know much about its inside but what I saw in TV shows and in a custom level for Duke 3D From what I recall it has big wide stairs in which it could be fun fighting Hmm I should start mapping for SoF 2 soon. I'll prolly start with a conversion of SoF1's nycctf1 to learn the differences ("Gangland", Warehouses style map) and next work on a NYC/Hotels map as I appreciate the theme |

You rock Turgon, I really want to see this map.
Other ideas for you:
- a near-scale 747 with tarmac, baggage trains, etc. Kinda the whole, "stand-off with terrorists in a highjacked plane" thing, ever read the Rainbow 6 book?
- along that theme, an Amusement Park
- and one I just would like to see, a Stadium, be it baseball, football, maybe even just a basketball or hockey arena
- cruise ship
- junkyard/car wrecking yard could be very interesting
- and a mall, complete with Gap, Levi's, food courts, Kay Bee Toys, and a Gamestop selling copies of SOF2 |
