Some of my fondest memories where of playing Creeper CTF for Quake 1, dialed up to the internet on a 28.8 modem trading off turns with my friend till 3 or 4 in the morning. The beauty of the game was it's simplicity. It was basically a random game of Rock-Paper-Scissors with "super powers". Each rune had a place, but you could just grab one and use it. Usually the team who was able to use their abilities the best were the ones who would win the round, it was incredible fun. What ever happened to that? Even now, you have similair things like Q3: Superheroes and whatnot, but they add complexity. You sit and configure your powers for a couple minutes to get the best bang, then joined the server, having to go to the menu every time you wanted to change. Just thought I would spark another discussion |

I love simple mods. I think that's why I'm creating Detonator Q3A. It's just a simple matter of gathering 3 fragments to get a really, really big weapon. I personally would love to see more mod authors get away from trying to create realistic team-based warfare or terrorist/counterterrorist games and do more things that are simple, easy to pick up, and radically different. I don't think those mods are bad, it's just that there are quite a few of them, and I think a talented mod team could really clean up by coming up with something really different. |

One of the gametypes in banimod is goldrush which radically changes the gameplay. Its pretty simple to pick up.
One of the problems I've found is that a lot of players hate change. They want their game "pure" (whatever that is) and get upset when you change it. I've received death threats from players who didn't like what goldrush did to RTCW. |

My friends and I from school used to do LAN partys, just 8 of us but they were fun (at the time CS was getting popular). We used to play lots of different genre games but now all they play is CS. When I tried to introduce Day of Defeat, they didnt want to know as it didnt play like CS... its hard to get people to change what they play |

Ahhh! CS. The sign of a mis-spent youth. Luckily for me, I was totally immersed in SoF1 at that stage so I missed most of the glory days of CS and I couldn't really get into it after that. Somehow, it just didn't have so much appeal when I was used to the solid action and weapons of SoF1. Actually, SoF1 had some pretty innovative custom maps. I remember one that was just a big room with a bunch of walkways and a big tower in the corner. It was extremely simple but had a few traps and places to hide. Sorry, I can't remember the name but it was in one of the Soffiles.com map packs. It looked pretty stupid but it was as fun as #### to play. You're right, sometimes the simple stuff makes for the fondest memories. |

CS bores me to tears.
Simplicity is fun! I'm modeling it after a quake 1 mod I used to play at my friends house till 3-4 am on weekends trading off.
It was great. |
