I'll post something shortly with some guidelines.  Originally, we had thought that once the forum got active, we would just create sub-categories for each of the main topics.  Still waiting on that :)

Yeah, I would say lets not get too heavy with the guidelines at first.

I think it would be a good idea to start out fairly freeform and see what develops. Making rules as we need them instead of arbitrarily.

Lots of new guys coming now, but I do think that we should keep it the way it is now, with serious talk rather than silly chatter.

only cause all of us EF modders are coming, doesnt mean a flood of n00bs, most of us are pros.

Yeah that would be better. It would also save me some time rather than to have to read the mumbo jumbo of the coders that doesn't make sense to me :)

Guidelines are good, but only when you want crowdcontrol. At the moment I think it would be better to leave it freely, so that people can get to know each other better. In other words, an off topic post or two doesnt mean its deleted or locked...

as always, just my opinion

oops! I just did a reply in the "extra threads" post which
kinda suggests the need for separate topics sections.
I wouldn't wait on that.  I think separate topic sections are
an absolute must!

Seperate topics will be important later, but right now it might hinder the community.

The single forum that we have helps all of us get to know each other. If we start separating the general forum into categories, I figure we will see alot of people start paying more attention to certain forums than they would others. This probably won't matter much when the community becomes more established, but with the small community that we have now, it might hinder us.

"Uhm, small community? I thought we have alot of people in here!"

Right now, the community is still small. Rick has helped jump-start things by opening up the forums. However, I'm sure there are a number of people that signed up back in September that don't know the forums are once again active, and are probably not checking these forums. Because of that, one can't necessarily go by the member list that Caryn created.

I think we should give it at least a week before breaking the main forum into several category-specific forums.

But untill then, and most importantly.. Everyone needs to remember to categorize their new topics with the [GENERAL], [MODELERS], and [CODERS] tags.  This will be very important later on when we DO decide to create category-specific forums..  as the moderators will probably move alot of these topics into their respective forums.
