Thats odd, because when I open up holodeck_temple/water1f.tga it doesn't look blank at all, and it has an alpha channel. Are you sure you opened the right texture, and did you open it up directly from pak0.pk3. As U.S.S. Speed said, lightening the alpha channel on that image WILL make it more opaque.

yep...unless they changed something in Adobe 7, in which case I am tempted to go back to my old adobe 5 or 6... I know Adobe USED to show alpha channels, and of course still does, but when I open up the specific tga's, those alpha channels are no longer shown. Either that or my friend's computer is totally hosed :) (which is what I do my work on since I got my own computer back yesterday) either case, my own personal computer has less than a gig of space left, but I'll try it on that one and see if it works better?

I went back to Adobe Photoshop 5 and guess what?  they DID change something somewhere along the line. now I gotta figure out what! To quote Mr Horse from Ren And Stimpy "No sir, I don't like it!"

Ok...back to square one...editing the original image.

WHOOOSH!!! right over my head! Been a while since I was really intense into the graphics, but I'm working on it hehe.

That said, I edited the water1f, "borrowed" the alpha channel to test something, and actually applied it to my own water texture, (totally different I know but it had the same effect I wanted) and it actually seemed to work just fine...then it dawned on me that it appears that all they did for the alpha channel on the water1f was copy the whole scene, make a new pic, change it to black and white mode, adjust the brightness and contrast (about -20 and -40) and then paste THAT back into the actual ALPHA channel. I'm on the EQ computer right now so I'll have to test it later, but that's what I did for my own water. We'll see what the difference is?

Actually, it's a 256 grey gradiant.
And yes, it's needed to match the texture.  :;):
