At my school we've been using Photoshop 4.0.1, and it has that alpha channel option. So version 5.0 should have it aswell.

I clicked on that "Window" menu, but I dont see any of those options below "show Swatches" what could be the problem???

Channels is a Tab in the same Window as Layers... you must have a Layers window.
