I think it has stopped 99% of cheats, and obviously every time that 1% occurs,PB are on the case with another update My only reservation with PB is they need to make the updating run smoother and automatic, without many players having to go hunting out the evenbalance website to manualling install updates. I think SOF 2 could be losing new players as they hit this issue and dont know wot to do next,as they are not the sort to browse forums etc. When I started playing online I would have just given up on SOF 2 and moved to another game Obviously now its no big issue for me. |

Punkbuster used to kick a lot of people for anything but cheating, but lately I hardly ever see kicks. Never saw a cheater being caught, but maybe that's because they don't even try anymore. Yeah after the first pb release I did still see deus with his wallhack aimbot, but I haven't seen him around anymore.... and also no other cheaters, so I guess it's working fine now. Also the auto updates all worked, didn't have to go to www.evenbalance.com.... but some people did have trouble with it when the gold patch just came out. |

I would say it stopped 99% of SOF2 cheaters. I used to d/l cheats and try them out(on my own server), and PB would catch them. I think SOF2 has the advantage that very few cheats are actually made for SOF2. Most of the wallhacks out there for SOF2 are from CS, Q3, or some other OpenGL games, and PB does a good job of catching them. I think SOF2 is lucky OGC/noskill doesn't make cheats for SOF2 themselfs.
My biggest problem with PB is the instability problems it's causing in other users. And how user unfriendly it is to fix those problems. No one should have to change the XP compatibliy mode. I think Evenbalance needs better QA, maybe Activision can help them out.
Another "cheat" problem I have is with Pure. 1. There are things that are allowed past pure that shouldn't be. e.g. Silenced MP5 w/ unsilenced MP5 sound. 2. Admins who don't run pure, maybe they don't know what it is. It would take about 15 minutes for me to create a really nice wallhack that works on unpure PB enabled servers. I don't think admins realize that.
So in conclusion, PB is good, I wouldn't want to play SOF2 without it. Before 1.02 came out the cheating was rediculus, it's pretty much gone now. I think PB style cheat prevention should be in all future titles, but it needs to become more user friendly and stable, and should be better inegrated in to the game/masterserver.
