Scoring in all FPS is stupid the way it works, especially tfps (tactical first-person-shooters). :(

Suppose that 2 people are shooting 1 person.  Who gets the point?  The person who's final bullet nails the guy.  That's stupid. :s29: It's also unfair if your teammate did 90% of the damage. :s29:

The way it ought to work is that you get exactly the *percentage* of points you earned. :s10: For instance, suppose you and your teammate are shooting at someone,  if you do 90% of the damage, you get .9 of a point and your teammate who did 10% of the damage gets .1 of a point.  If you did 100% of the damage, you get the whole point.

The game continues to keep track of your points and you get a *realistic* score at the end and no one complains, "you stole my kill!".

Same problem with capturing flags in CTF.  The total points of capturing a flag should be broken down by what percentage you moved the flag toward your base (or even what percentage of the time you had the flag in your possession would be acceptable!;).

If the game gives you 10 points for capturing a flag, you should get 6 points if you moved it 60% of the way (or had it 60% of the time) and the other person(s!!!;) would get the other 4 points.  That's fair.

I don't know how many times I was playing defense and saw my teammate drop the flag a few feet from the goal and I brought it in and got all the points.  I feel just awful! ???  The guy worked his butt off and I got all of the points; and he got nothing.  That's not fair and **doesn't indicate in the scoring how everyone truly contributed to the team**.

At the end of a game:
- You would get exactly the score you earned.
- There would be no debate about how you contributed to your team.

Lastly, this is not a burden on the game at all.  SoF2 is already keeping track of where each bullet lands and how much damage should be assessed for the target.  Just add a few more lines of code to also assess points as well.  No biggee.

but the other side of it is its a team game, and there is no i in team ;)

mabey they should do it the other way, and remove indevidual scoring to focus more on the team

no,no, no, I don't like that. Like in RTCW you can have someone at the top of the score board with 50 points and they might not have gotten any kills. It's a lot harder to frag then to plant a peice of dynomite.

I like the percentage scoring idea.

I agree with this topic. I think a level should be divided into zones and when a flag gets scored the players get a point for every zone they moved the flag closer to the base. Also points for shooting someone that is shooting the flag carrier would improve team play. In SOF1 they had that, why the H3LL did they change that???? The % scores aren't really that necessary. So what if people steal my kills? It's a team game and I probably 'steal' as many kills from people as that they get 'stolen' from me.

I've seen and thought through the arguments for having only a "team score" versus "team score & individual score" (like SoF2 does).

Anyone serious about playing SoF2 as a "team game" instantly likes the idea of a "team score" only since it seems like it would remove action that doesn't benefit the team.

The problem I see with that is that many people are just flat clueless and especially new players (derogatively referred to as 'noobs';).  The benefit of an "individual score" is that someone can appraise their own effort in light of their entire team's.

For instance, if you end a game and the top scorer for your team has 120 points and you have 10,,, that's a kick in the butt for sure.  You need to see what the 120 point guy is doing that you're not. LOL!  Without the "individual score", how would you know how little you're helping your team? LOL!

This is not a simple issue.  Lots of nuances.

...and your reasoning is???

I'm willing to change my opinion in light of a persuasive argument.
