Stop me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the SoF2 community is slowly getting smaller... I mean there are less servers => less players. + I know some skilled players that are giving up or switching to other games (i.e. ut2003).
But why? maybe beacause there is not enough innovation... It's been a long time no update or mod  (btw big up to Raven for patches 1.01 and 1.02, they rocked) has been announced or released. But for me, SoF2 is still the best multiplayer game out yet.

What do yall think about it?

I agree with ramrod... but I also do notice that there are fewer people lately. I mean.... I didn't play INF for ages and still I went up the csports ranking list with 6000 places without doing anything.

erm just a quick question. i never played ut2003 but isn't it the game where u have futuristic guns twice the players size with enough firepower to blow up 5-6 enemies coming at you. I've played serious sam online and if ut2003 is anything like it i think it can't be compared to sof2 ... these games are too fast for me, you have to be on speed to think they are slow and tactics based lol...
merry xmas to yall :s12:

I'm sure it is getting smaller, but is that really a bad thing??

There are a few things that are leading to less interest in the game.

1. Pure Server - this has a effect that can be felt all over. Guys like me who use to do I guess what you would call mini-mods to games can no longer do so because our pak files get by passed on pure servers so we can't see & enjoy our simple edits to the game. Skins, Crosshairs, model replacement,... this also means that fewer players that enjoy downloading and using such mini-mods can not customize the game to thier liking...thus the look and feel of the game gets older faster. Think of it sorta like classic cars, while they where great in thier day..with out a fresh paint job and some new rims plus a few other items they soon find them selves collecting dust in some ones back yard or at the junk yard. Also these mini-mods can at times become full blown mods..I think Urban Terror for Q3A started out this way...If I recall it was orginally just a map set that was based on real world locations..then over time turned into a total conversion. Heh and one of the most widely played mods for Q3A. Not only that but say you got a cool idea for a mod and some code to back it up...how do you find the mappers and modeler and graphic wiz's to make it all come together? well I'll say this much its a lot harder when you can't just download some stuff from FilePlanet or the like to check out peoples work to see if you want to get in contact with them.

2. Punkbuster - Currently this is a turn off but its a growing pain that needs to be dealt with all the same. Why is it a turn off...well when you get kicked for lord knows what reason repeatedly you tend to give up on a game rather quickly. I my self went through a ton of headache's because of this, but have finally nailed down most my issues. All I got to say is thank you to the Admins of SoF2 servers that haven't gotten as nazi like as some of the Q3A Admins have gotten. I'm not joking but on a lot of Q3A servers you can't even start out with the cvar defaults because you'll get kicked for a bs cvar range explot and its differant on nearly all servers...needless to say Q3A is dead in my book..I don't have time to spend 3min+ jocking my cvars around so I can play on some ones server. I really wish PB would remove the cvar range option from the server admins toolbox, nothing against admins but dang this is some thing that can and has been abused....not that I'll nessarly prefer PB's settings but atleast when I get screwed, its done across the board so I know what to expect from server to server.

So in the end I hope PB gets good enough that there is no longer the need for Pure Server setting, and that PB removes the cvar range option...at that point we may see a increase of players again...but thats probably a ways off from now.

Just my thoughts.
