look at VIS for dummies... the explanation about structural vs detail is all there - and gives you an idea of WHY to do it and when NOT to do it [angryalien]

ok - each grid is 1 inch

so 36 grids = 1 yard

without fog the player will see as far as his pov allows him to [angryalien]

Detail brushes. What is detail? Stuff like stairs, trim. railings, crates, anything that will not block vis. If you change a brush to Detail it will still be solid.

What RedRum says is more correct. There is no difference in the "solid" nature of a brush when it comes to the player's perspective in-game between detail and structural.

The only distinction has to do with the engine and it's algorithms to display/hide certain portions of a map based on the players position.

If your reference to "solid" refers more to that than the ability of a player to interact (i.e. touch/stand on) with the brush in game, then we stand corrected and you need to articulate your question a bit more. I'd also suggest doing a search here for VIS and/or DETAIL to find the rest of the really good discussions that have occurred in the past.
