I don't think there is any kind of intentional "trend" toward one or the other, the games in production just come out when they come out. "When they're done," even if it takes *cough* Forever (hi, Duke, they finished making your wheelchair yet? Changed your steroid pills to Geritol? Duke ™ Viagra?).

Of course Military and Sci-Fi are the standard of the genre, and I love them both, but what I'm always looking for is something entirely new and fresh. Some examples are "No One Lives Forever", "Alice", and "Max Payne" (unfortunately two of them were 3rd Person). "Outlaws", a Western shooter by Lucas Arts, was another fresh idea for a shooter that I liked alot.

Right now, I don't see any new or fresh FPS games scheduled for release next year, just more Military and Sci-Fi.  Oh Well.

I tried a demo of UT3k and it made me dizzy with all that side to side running. Besides it crashed endlessly on my machine. I'll try it again when I have time to work it out.

I don't know about Q4 sooo...

I used to play UT and QIII mostly along with MAX Payne, until SOF II arrived. Since then I haven't played a single game of UT or QIII except for the demo listed above.I tried a demo of the Blackhawk Down and I was severely disappointed. I was hoping for more of a SOF II appearance.

BF1942, I played a demo and it was just ok. I would try it out again if I weren't so hooked on SOF II.

Then again demos are just that, demos.

I am hoping for more military games rather than sci fi. Just using somewhat realistic weapons and facing human opponents is much more satisfying than the aliens.
