Now, i'm no n00b at this game, i've played it from the very beginning until now. I play it everyday and i'm in a clan (FreeX). This game is great, don't get me wrong. But at the moment there is very little chance of it becoming as big or popular as Counter-Strike. The main reason is that the game is way too simplistic. You have like 15 maps or whateva and 10 guns. Now this may seem plenty for the average dude. But when you enter a server and all you see are 2-3 guns being used (mainly AK, M4 and sniper), then you start to get frustrated. Why are Raven being so ignorant about releasing a patch with new guns?..what's the big problem.
It's like they are saying, stick with the guns we gave you or don't play. I don't want to wait for some cowboy mod's to be made by some idiots, who just make 3 new skins and a new gamemode called ctf with banana's instead of a flag. Or some other stupid idea. And have extra Aid packs in a map, and say yes we just made a new map.
I feel we have the right to pester Raven for more gun's. After all that's the main thing we use. I wanna see 10 different guns being used in the server instead of 3 and a selection of 30+ guns. That is what made Counter-Strike so much more appealing than SOF2.. and if Raven won't change their attitude towards this subject. This game will flop like the others do and alot of unhappy gamers will be forced to play another game.
Along with the maps, there are more areas in which the game can be improved. I won't delve too deep into those just yet..you'll have to wait until my next post. But it's mainly to do with sound effects, tiny bugs and also a great bonus would be to have something like a SOF2TV option...like the quake3 and CS players have. Something where we can watch a game live. instead of having to use Gamespy or a matchbot in IRC.
The Guns that i think would be most popular and add some depth into the gameplay are:
Assault Rifles
STEYR AUG /w scope Sig-552 Commando FAMAS 12 HK97K Beretta AR-70/90 H&K G11 K2
Pistols
Desert Eagle Sig P228 USP45 Browning Mk3
Sniper Rifles
Weatherby TRR Parker-Hale M85 Accuracy International Super Magnum (AW/M) PAUZA P-50
Sub machine Guns
P-90 Skorpion H&K MP5A4 (different model to current one) Steyr TMP
as a finishing note...i personally feel these additions would make this game SO much better...and i need your support....the community....do not feel that what ur using at the moment is enough. You deserve more. You will get more !
COME ON RAVEN, GIVE US WHAT WE WANT |

I agree more or less with KuDoS: I would like to see SOME more weapons in the game as well. On the other hand, I think having not THAT many different weapons has some advantages too. For instance: the change that some newbie can kick ass because he as some ultra-good weapon decreases: it takes more skill if you want to be a very good player. Take the MM1 for instance. Sometimes there are servers where the MM1 can be picked up. Now, if you respawn and you are not close to a MM1, you are ####ed most of the time. Another side-effect is that players might concentrate more on finding the nice weapons instead of killing eachother.
Although I do like to see some more weapons, I think there's a more important thing to improve in the game: stealth. The way the game is set up, it is pretty easy to detect an enemy, also at long range. If you take a game like Ghost Recon for instance, enemy detection is more difficult. I mean: when an enemy is crouching through some bushes, it should be difficult to detect him, right? I think the game would be more exciting if it was more difficult to detect an enemy. In my opinion the game will NOT bemore exciting with more weapons, it only brings more variety in detail, which is still nice of course.

raven are not being ignorant about anything.
raven did not just pop out the ground just to make and support this 1 game forever.
the problem is resources
curently there is only a fraction of the staff left actulay working on sof2 and even then its not exclusively, all the staff are being moved on to the next progect... Quake 4.
raven only made 1 of the 4 maps with the latest patch, and probally not making any for this next patch (suposibly threewave is making 3 more for it).
they have alredy stated there will be no more weapons. |
