Me and everyone in my clan aim for the head, and Ive seen so many incidents where the shotgun has been way too random, and people who are very very bad at SoF2 can fire a shotgun shot at your body and take you down to 10 hp in a single shot with pure luck because the bullet spread happend to hit something on the body... Agrd, i've sometimes killed more people with the shotgun when my aim's been off for a day, than when my aim is perfect. The spread is way random.
I find the best place to aim is actually slightly left of your target, the pellets tend to spread in an arc around the right of your crosshair.

Of course it's random when you were just caught off guard fired some shots in the air hoping for a kill.
