I am sick and tired of all the talk about certain weapons being n00bie weapons! Therefore I am writing this complete list of the alleged “n00b”weapons and why they are not n00b weapons along with their strengths and weaknesses.

USAS-12 = Probably the most commonly bitched about weapon in all servers. The USAS is a shotgun with a 10 round clip that can fire in full auto. Although the USAS is virtually unbeatable in close-quartered combat, when used at any signifigant distance the USAS is USELESS. Because of this the USAS requires a completely different strategy then most weapons, you have to find a way to get close to your enemy without getting blown away first. I personally think it’s much harder to sneak up on an enemy any day that it is to pick them off at 200 yards with a sniper rifle in one shot. The USAS---Takes a lifetime to learn…but once you’ve mastered it you will be a force to be reckoned with.

M4 = Namely the M203 grenades launched by the M4 rifle. This is not a n00bie weapon. All weapons are tactical…that’s why they’re there isn’t it. The M203 is harder to aim then regular fragg grenades, also, it is not as powerful and the explosion covers a smaller area. Although there are some people who run into large groups of enemies fire a nade, get a kill, than get butt raped. That is not the weapons fault!!! The player makes the weapon effective not the weapon makes the player effective! If you use the M203 grenades along with the automatic firing capabilities of the rifle then you become a one man killing machine!  Plus you only get 2 grenades per round so don’t say that all people do it launch grenades.

Sniper Rifle = Many times I see people screaming “CAMPER!” at people who are sniping. This is completely wrong. The sniper rifle has NO crosshairs when not looking in the scope making it very hard to aim. And with only a few rounds per clip that fire slowly how can you say this weapon makes the game easier. Finding a good sniping position if an artform all on it’s own, using the sniper rifle effectively is also. Most people that use the sniper don’t even have it out most of the time. Usually they get kill with the micro-uzi or M590 shotgun, then whip out their sniper rifle only if they see a person standing still that they know they can pick off.

MM1 = This is a grenade launcher with fairly rapid fire and ten round clips. When firing the MM1 grenades gravity is a huge factor. It is very hard to aim the MM1 effectively especially at long range. Although I do not think this weapon is appropriate for all game types I have absolutely no problem using the MM1 in gametypes like deathmatch, team deathmatch, and sometimes capture the flag. Also, any gun that can kill yourself takes some skill to handle.

RPG-7 = The classic rocket launcher. This gun is very hard to aim at long range, and at close range you usually kill yourself. So how can this be a n00bies secret weapon? Not only that but you only get 3 rockets per round and the reload time gives you enough time to write a book between shots. Once again: I do not think this weapon is appropriate for all gametypes but I have to no problem with it being used effectively when appropriate.


In short there is no such thing as n00b weapons, only n00b players. All weapons have their strengths and weaknesses, some more extreme then others. The point of any game or even in real life is to use whatever tactics and equipment necessary to get the job done! If you have a problem with Ravensoft’s fine work with SOF II then play another game, don’t go around bitching about how n00bie the weapons are.

Like i said before i don't think the RPG and MM1 are appropriate for all gametypes. Another thing, when i play deathmatch i NEVER go for the MM1. I go for the AK-74, stock up on ammo, then shoot everyone while they are on their way to get the MM1 with only a pistol  

And also, if the MM1 is severely over powered then USE IT! That's the point of the game isnt it..to win
