When compiling with the codtools editor you will find that after you add a Simple Terrain Mesh then compile the editor will close.
I personally don't like this so I use COD Builder which operates outside the COD Editor.

On a side note: If anyone has come across any quirks please feel free to add it to this thread which I will make a Sticky.
Please do not ask questions in this thread as it is only for other members information.

Saveing you map can be harmfull to your health.... if you lose the map and it crashes the editor. therefor ITS ALWAYS a good idea to make 3 backups of your map saveing the first almost everytime you change something, the second save every once in a while and the third you hardly ever save on due to haveing a way to take a large step back if seriously messing up. ALSO you can really mess your map up by doing a series of quick saves (ctrl-s) so its always a safe bet to goto (save as) then overwrite your map.

you can't image how right you are!
I've certainly re-created my map about 6 times since January 04.. Now I have about 8 - 10 backups of the last weeks because often I even didn't notice a harmful and negative change in my map for many days and then I had to ---> [puke] .

So: Backup the backup of the backup of your backup folks!

best regards

When playing with large prefabs in your maps such as buildings with insides, its never a good idea to use the free rotation tool while ploting out where you want place them, for this will crash your editor if the prefab has a good amount of brushes selected. You can instead use the rotate buttons next to open and save icons uptop to rotate the prefab.
If need be that you have to have the prefab rotated by something like 5 degrees do this befor saveing and opening the prefab file into your map and then use your rotate buttons again.

The reason for the editor crashing is due to the fact that EVERY SINGLE brush you make is givein a set of numbers in its .map file telling the radiant editor where in its 3d space that brush is located, so when makeing a entire building prefab that could sometimes have hundreds of brushes its .map file could contain thousands upon thousands of numbers telling the editor where all them brushes are, therefor haveing all them brushes selected and free rotateing them is really trying have the editor update all them thousands of numbers in that .map file live! as you rotate it, and then crasho.
Just think what that .map file would look like if being able to rotate large brush ammounts as prefabs, and be able watch the editor do live updates to them brush numbers , it would look like a freaking slot machine all the way down the entire page.

It also is never a good Idea to say have a large group of brushes like a large stairway selected only to deselect the exsposed faces for what you might think is a smart way around the trickyness of filling in them UNexsposed brushes with the caulking texture, but it is really nothing but a big headach, because more or less after telling what ever faces you still have selcted to use a texture the whole editor just might will crash.

Ill keep my eyes out for more [pimp]
