I've got a small home network and sometimes some friends and myself want to join the same server.  Well, any server that has PB enabled doesn't allow us to do this since the release of the 1.02 patch.  Is joining on the same server seen as cheating somehow?  If so, please explain.  I really don't think I should have to buy multiple copies of the game just so I can play with friends on the same server!!! :s15:  :s29:

Read your EULA.  One copy of the game per machine.

If you want to have 2 machines at your home playing SOFII at the same time, you need 2 unique CD Keys.

That's freakin' lame!!!  So then, why does the game allow as many computers as you want to run the game with the same CD-Key when playing on a LAN?

I hate it when games do this.  Makes me feel like an idiot for buying it in the first place!!!

I understand that when you connect to a server, the CD-Key is verified through the master server first, but I still think that as long as the game is being used in the same household, you should only have to have one valid key!!! :s14:

Then how come this was NEVER a problem until the 1.02 PB patch was released?

Just get your friends to buy another game. I have multiple people that play on my LAN and YES, all the machines have a different CD. If you installed the game you agreed to the EULA which states one game per machine.

If you have a playstation you also need 2 copies in order to play vs each other with a link cable.

because the master server enforces the cd keys by ip, as it works on a global level

however punkbuster (added in 1.02) works on a server by server basis and compaires the guid's of the people on the server.

how are they to know when its actually being used for that or not?  and the master server did enforce this before...check the post where people complain about their keys being banned or invalid.

Boy, yeah... I can't think of ANY software that you purchase "retail" that is legal to install on EVERY machine in your household.

Not talking about "site licenses".
