Is there a method to the frame rate drop madness?

Mine is very inconsistent meaning it will be around 80 fps on average however on certain maps it will drop drastically to 30-45 unbearable playing conditions when you are use to 80+

Is there a tweak, setting, and or hardware that allows frame rate consistency?
I have tried capped and uncapped fps via console command nothing makes a difference.
I have spoken with other gamers that have consistent FPS with out the drastic drops

My system specs
AbitKR7- RAID system board
AMD XP 1600
RAM 384 megs
OS is XP pro SP1
HDD 7200 rpm Maxtor
Geforce 4 ti 4600

thanks

Hey thats pretty close to my system specs. 35 isn't that bad though. Most of the time I'm around 80 too, but when it drops down to 35 I just put away the ak and whip out the shotgun. Then hide in a corner and ambush.

Okay first off with those specs 35fps sucks, and 80fps is bad.

1. Make sure Anti-Aliasing is off.

2. Start your own server and see what FPS you get. Also make a demo and benchmark your system. That way you can rule out a connection problem.

3. Run AGPMem from Nvidia. If it say less then 128MB Total [on a Ti 4600] then you need to do three things; get the lastest BIOS, get the lastest chipset drivers(VIA 4in1s), check the AGP Aperture setting in the BIOS.

4. Make sure all other drivers are up-to-date.

5. If all of the above are fine then you simply need to lower your graphics settings.

(I'm getting tierd of typing the same thing over and over)

Ok i'm kinda of a PC nOOb so bare with me.  I do have GeF4Ti4600.  Got it to replace GeF3Ti200 that came with machine.

The AGPmem test got me these results.  Total 66584575 Free 61271023 Is this normal??

My BIOS version is 4.25.00.25.21  Is this up-to-date?  Where do I look for the AGP Apature settings?  The BIOS?  How do I get in there?  Sry man, me nOOb.

AA is off.

I'm trying to make sure I'm getting all there is to get outta my GeF4 but I get the same kind of frames posted above.  Any input is greatly apprecaited.

AGPMem is saying you only have a 64MB video card. Look at this thread in the SP forum.

I don't know what your lastest BIOS version is. Go to the Motherboard makers(Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, etc.) website for the latest BIOS and chipset drivers. If your computer is prebuilt(Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.) go to their website.

AGP Aperture is in the BIOS, I've never personaly had to change mine, I think yours should be set to 128MB.

Different BIOS have different ways to get in them. When your computer is first booting, listing your hardware, press the correct key. It should say something like "Press DEL for Setup". The most common keys are Del, F2, ESC, and F4.

Yeah my computer came with a 64 meg GeF3Ti200 so......and I just plugged in my GeF4Ti4600 and installed the drivers and went for it.  Something tells me thats not all there is to it.  I will try this BIOS thing you mention although I'm kinda  ???  on it right at the moment.  I'll also read that thread.  Thanks.

xmc I sent you  PM to get just a little more info from you.  thanks again

Edit 30 minutes later.

Ok I have switched my AGP setting to 256.  It was that or 64.  I had no 128 option.  It seems to have worked cause the test now gives me 136****** Total and 128****** Free  So I'm golden there.  I also did update my BIOS.  I didn't see a chipset driver update at Dell's site so no help there.

Now with those memory changes and BIOS update, I was still seeing lows of 40fps on Kam4 in a loaded (20+ peeps) server.  But even at 40fps its still really smooth, no noticable slow down.

Also my top end fps seems to have capped out. 115+ easlily.  Like when I'm in a tunnel or hallway all by myself.  So that's good.  :D

ok If i wasnt clear about my frame rate as I said On average its 85 fps . It is higher at times . I have seen it hit 200+.
I do have AA off
Its the inconsistency from 200 down to 45 is what I’m referring to.
I do have the latest drivers on all hardware components and bios updates for my sys board except for the video card . I will check the bios version for that.
AGP aperture is set to 128
Also will check the agpmem option

####!!!

Here's my spec's:  Dell 4400 P4 2Ghz w/512DDR, 400mhz buss, 4x AGP graphics housing GeF4Ti4600.

I just saw a low of 19 some fps on Col1 as I was specing a player.  A blue guy was camping his base and using the SIG scope to try and pop some heads.  He was using a chunk of stone as cover.  But as he would lean out and try to snipe, my fps would dip down to 20-25 with a buncha nades and guys runnin' around.  So there was lotsa action going on but sheesh I saw teen #'s on my GeF4Ti4600.  I did try and tweak everything but my video card drivers.  I still have the same drivers that came with the graphics card.  should I update to the Det 40.72's or something like them?

Is this game just so detailed that when you run MAX graphics and settings at 1280x1024 that it will bog down even the #2 card out there?  I'm interested to hear what ATI9700 owners are saying.

drop your max fps down(com_maxfps I believe). IMO anything above 130 is just wasting bandwidth, and causes big variations in frame rate. I set mine to 105 and it stays pegged at 111 most of the time.
