A week or so ago I got the following error when I went to load a small map:

Error
ParseEntity:{not found
GetLastError() = 5-0
An unrecoverable error has occured. Would you like to edit Preferences before exiting Q3Radient?
Yes/No

This morning I was mapping along on a different map, everything was just fine, then I had to restart my computer, and when I tried to load the map I was working on, it crashed with the same error. I've tried to load the autosave.map and the autosave.bak but they both crash. (last time I was able to rename and load the autosave.bak)

As the map loads, it seems to get through loading the textures ok, then the last thing it prints before dying is "parse brush" then it craps out. Is there ANY way to recover from this or to open the map some other way and remove whatever is making it corrupt? Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks

have u tried loading it in gtk radient (dont kniw if it would be different but its worth a shot)

if not try opening the map file and looking for any bad bits, its nicly structured so anything that dosent look right might be the problem. ???

if not back up the map again, and in a copy delete chunks till it loads

all the tools for removing corrupt brushes are run once the maps loaded :(

Here is a possible set of cures for you:

PROBLEM:
ERROR: ParseEntity: { not found Get Last Error() = 0 - 0 An unrecoverable error has occurred. Would you like to edit Preferences before exiting Q3Radiant?"

SOLUTION:
A. Try this -> Go to Project Settings and switch off "Use Brush Primitives In Map Files," or switch it on if it's already off.

B. One solution to this problem is to open up the .map file in wordpad, and look for something that does not look right and delete it. Usually it is a brush that seems to have it's coordinates all messed up. Try looking for brushes that are missing a texture specification. I would not recommend doing this by hand (you could probably make a script to do it, or maybe a regular expression to match for it if you're using a smart text editor).
If/when you find any suspicious brush, don't delete it right away!!! Just make a note of the brush number. Then you should go back into Q3R and use the "find brush" function to see which brush is giving you the problems. You might be able to repair it. If you have to delete it, at least you'll know where it is on the map so you can make sure that area is still OK after the deletion.

I have a page full of errors and fixes that you can access Here.

I hope this helps a little :)

Thanks, that worked. I opened it up in wordpad and saw that a few lights somehow had their textures nuked and replaced by an RGB value. Nice to be able to open the .map files, it's kind of like a Maya ascii file but alot simpler.

Gabriel, I could reach your error codes page, are outsiders allowed to view it or is the server down?

This SP forum is great, the signal to noise ratio is very good, hope it keeps going.

Thanks again.
