Questions for APOXOL
Hello Apoxol, I’m curious about a few things:
Where exactly does a bullet originate? Where is the plane that a bullet begins? Does it begin in the center of the players skull, chest, or at the end of the gun barrel? And where does the damage of the bullet begin, is it at the origin plane or the end of the gun barrel or elsewhere?
My reason for this question is that I noticed when extremely close to the enemy; such as when you run into each other, the bullets seem to be ineffective, like as if they’re going right through them. Is the barrel actually sticking through their body and the damage doesn’t begin until the bullet leaves the barrel, which is behind them?
What about the knife, where exactly does it originate? If I’m face-to-face with an enemy and throw the knife, am I throwing it over their head, since my throwing hand is higher then their head? At what plane, relative to my body does a thrown knife begin, and is that the same plane that damage begins?
Do bullets and knives have the same damage at the very beginning of their travel distance as the end? Is the speed constant throughout?
I know the knife travels in an arch, but what about the bullets, is there any gravitational drop? Should I aim a little above someone’s head at certain distances?
Is there any kind of a pull toward the body of an opponent of anything thrown or shot at them? Does a bullet travel in a perfect straight line and if that line misses the head of an opponent by ¼ inch then it misses, or will it kind of veer toward the body when it gets within a certain distance. What about the grenades from the M203, how does a grenade seem to hit square on to someone running that was fired from an extreme distance?
Is there anything a bullet can penetrate besides tent fabric and water? What about glass, the first time a bullet hits glass, does it stop there or go through?
Is armor universal or only apply to certain body points? If someone is shot in the leg with 100% armor will the damage be less than the same shot without armor? Are all MP skins the same as far as damage? Is the area and damage identical with a female skin as with Sanchez?
That’s it for now. Thanks |

| Quote (Apoxol @ Sep. 04 2002, 11:17 am) | | What is your ping when you play? Extreme close range can be harder to hit than not sometimes due to prediction errors with being able to move into someone else. Basically your client thinks you can move there but you cant so the server puts you back. You can see this alot when running along side a teammate and bumping into him alot. |
This is exactly what is happening and that stinks. This is a deficiency in netcode. So if I kill anyone the intention is that I kill them from a certain range for effectiveness yet point blank I could end up missing them?? I have been dealing with this for a long time and my suspicions were right on the netcode. From far no problem, point blank 50/50 or that is how it appears.
So all the posts here that have described people point blank missing people has been 100% true. It has nothing to do with the ping, or at least very little, since this happens to me with less than a 70ms ping. Then you throw in the server itself with the little lag it has as well as the other players lagging the server it all becomes a big mess.
So unless I have a T1 to my house I might as well scrap close in fighting.
This can't even be an issue where you can tell me to back up a bit. I been 5ft from someone and shot them and missed.
My motivation to play has been drastically lowered from this info. SOF2 "is" a LOT of close quarter fighting and it's essentially based on luck. Whoevers bullet decides to hit the target.
i hope Raven figures this out. |

| Quote (xmc @ Sep. 04 2002, 4:11 pm) | | About the different skins, I always choose the smallest player, I figure I'm less of a target that way. Is that just wishful thinking? i.e. on finca, would a shot that hits the outside of the fat guys belly miss the thin guy? |
Ohhh that's what I hated about SOF1, so many GUYS running around using female skins because they were harder to hit. I think that's so weak. I'm a guy so I'm not going to be some kind of transvestite playing as a girl. |
