feel free to criticize this idea (nothing immature like "that's gay" or whatever)

1) First using punkbuster or software like csguard that scans for cheats a cheater is detected.

2)They are then kicked off the server and receive 1 mark on their player record (i'll explain)

3) If they get 3 marks their CD-key is banned from Multiplayer games.

4) Every 3 - 6 months (whatever time period is chosen) 1 mark is removed from the person's record if they are not caught cheating during that time period. This would eliminate any needed appeal process because it would take about that long anyway to process complaints.

Another benefit would be that the stupid cheaters would lose their cd-keys pretty quick and their will probably be trojan horse cheats to extract cd-keys. Which will just speed the process of banning those keys.

Any advice or whatever is appreciated.

hmm sounds pretty much like what it's going to be in the 1.02 patch except for the mark system, that reminds me of my drivers license :)
I think cheaters should be banned at first attempt no need to give them a second chance they don't deserve it. They're not trying to play and have fun but to ruin the gameplay...maybe after a year or two they should be allowed to play again that gives us enough time to enjoy this game and buy SoF3  :D

Does anybody still have that "Global Punk List" proposal that started at the old forums? Maybe it's time to put it into effect. Or at least re-post it so that new members can see what that's all about. ;)

i really like the idea.. imo cheaters should be banned from the online gaming part of a game as soon as detected.

and i guess most companies fear these harsh methods, but others; like westwood (red alert2-language filter) use time limited bans that grow after repeated violations..  and people are still playing the game.

But i mostly hope punkbuster will do the same thing for sof2 as it does for RTCW..and that is 50% cheatprotection and 50% cheatdemotivation... as soon as cheats are actively blocked, most hax0rs wont even bother to try making a cheat... sure there will be cheats..but not public anymore...

if pb for sof2 can pull that off, we dont need bans whatsoever to get us a more enjoyable game.

A great social lesson here.  Just substitute the word "multiplayer" with the word "society."  Then substitute the word "ban" with "gas-chamber."   We hate these cheaters so much that we want them dead... not just out of our games.

If Punkbuster scans your directory and will not let you on the server with a cheat or kicks you once it detects a cheat, isn't that enough.  Well, it is but we are a blood-thirsty lot.  We can easily be sold facism by warming up a good hate for the other guy.

My only wish with this that the great champions of banning get somehow caught up in their own little maximum dragnet.  Unfortunately, that is usually not the case.  The fellow caught in a false positive that turns his cd into a cup holder is usually the poor schmuck that saved for months to buy the game.

This is the best solution: If someone is caught cheating their PC blows up, why the #### do you wanna give them another chance?

My only concern is wether punkbuster will be able to filter all cheats? Even more, IMO hackers will immidately start trying to hack punkbuster and it woudn't take long 'till its hacked ... dunno ...

haha, that would be great... kinda like the car theft deterent in Total Recall... you cheat, you cook  sizzle sizzle   :D

of course, then there would be hardware hacks that prevented the sudden death result of cheating and we'd all be back to square one.

games will always have cheaters.  the best defense is to play on a server with people you know and trust... and one that has an admin that will kick suspicious outsiders as soon as they catch on to them.

even better, let's set up a few Cheat-Only servers...   bait them like bee's to honey.

server name:

1337 HAX0RS ONLY - CHEAT SERVER!!

Then anyone dumb enough to join this server gets instantly banned!!!

Not a bad idea. Unfortunately, cheating will always exist like drugs and anything else we decide to "ban". You cannot completely ban or get rid of these cheaters.

Thinking aloud here so watch out.....Why not promote some people to have a "Cheats server" so these guys can get their fix and leave us alone to our own demise? Of course it will be up to the individual to provide these servers. Will the patch allow admins to use discretion whether or not to run this type of server?

A con to that is that these guys will perfect their cheat abilities and still cause paranoia and chaos regardless of what servers are available.
However, this also might confuse the issue of what servers are cheat servers and ones that do not allow them. I think the best solution is to just kick and ban cheaters. It would be nice to have proof of the cheat as well. As far as banning the CD key, that might supress some of them for awhile. Wouldn't hurt to make some of them "Examples of the system" first thing.

At the very least, the new patch might legitimize good player's abilities until proof of it being hacked is presented. It seemed that no one really cared or believed the hype of the wall hack until someone had proof of it. Good players may no longer be called "cheaters" at least until paranoia creeps out again.

Liars, thieves and cheats are not honorable so making any kind of pact with them or some kind of "understanding" to use separate servers is also out of the question.

PB is kind of like the "club" for cars.  You know that thing that locks your steering wheel so it can't be driven away.  They say the real professional thiefs can disable that thing in seconds and have your car.  But where it works is on the amateur.   The teenager looking for a joyride, the low-end thief looking to make a quick buck or use it for something else.

Punkbuster is the same.  We may never be rid of the hardcore hackers.  But if we can weed out the amateurs, the guys who found a hack or cheat on the net.  I think punkbuster would elimate these guys making a better playing environment for us all.
