G'Day,

Well after testing for quite some time on multiple setups I can honest and without question make a completely valid suggestion to those of you trying to play SOF2 SP and keep getting reboots, black screens, SOF2 errors in XP or sound skips and then a reboot.  

Here it is the compete suggestion / answer.

Remove all your memory except one 256 meg chip from your memory slots.  DO NOT PUT MORE THEN ONE 256Meg chip in the machine and the game will run.

If you have two 128's and you are having this problem take one out.  Leave only one chip in the machine.  I have yet to test one 512.  

Try it, before you go making silly responses.  This has been tested and tested and is now proven.  With the exception of the single 512 meg chip this has been reproduced many times.

This is for SP only.  The multi chip combinations work fiine in MP as well as over 256Megs.  Again, this is only for SP play.

Now to figure out why?

I am getting a 512Meg chip tomorrow to test the final check of whether the game only like 256Megs or hates 2 chips.

Tomorrow we will be validating the 512 Chip as well as another option.  At this time we believe that SOFII has issues with 333DDR memory / PCS2700  - We will also be checking this validity at the same time.

The 512 PCS2100 Memory is great.  SP and MP work perfectly.  This is the real deal.  SP has a problem with SIS chipset.  Not the intel chipset.  If you use 2700 memory on a SIS chipset you will not be able to play SP.  The machine will reboot and you will be very mad.

If you change your memory in a sis chipset to 2100 ( 266 ) memory everything will work fine. 1 chip or 2.  The 512M ( 266DDR) chip on a sis mobo woks perfectly and SP is fantastic.

So for all you sis chipset users.  Dump the 2700 and go with 266ddr ( 2100 ).  This is conclusive.  If you have it working with the 2700 memory and the sis chipset with 2 chips it is a fluke.

I've got 512 MByte of DDR PC 333 RAM, which are two 256 MByte pieces. I can run SoFII SP without any problems. By the way, I am using a Via KT333 chipset.
