Ok, so yesterday I was getting ready to switch my cable modem CAT5 cable out of my desktop into my laptop.  I take out the cable and all at once my right arm (all the way to the elbow) goes numb.  I looked down and my elbow was really close to the armrest on my chair, so I figured I had hit my funny bone.  So I move the cable to my left hand and IT GOES NUMB!  At this point I realized that I was drawing current from something, and that it was electricity that was making me go numb.

So today, I'm doing the same thing, but this time I shut the power off at the surge protector...but the same thing happens, except not as sever (only my finger started to tingle).

WHAT IN TARNATION IS GOING ON???

Don't grab the wire with both hands.  It's a good idea to keep current away from your ticker.

Try a new surge protector.  If you are still getting a current through the line after that, then it is coming in from somewhere else (the co-ax cable maybe?)...

I wasn't grabbing the line with both hands.  BUT--I was touching the PC Case, which is aluminum.  So more than likely the current was going in my right hand and out my left, or vice versa.

But I didn't feel any current across my chest...so I dunno.

There is a little light that is on my surge protector that says "wiring fault."  Could that be the probelmo?

That is very freaky, try wearing heavy insulated gloves..mitebe some type of lingering electric charge tranfuring to the nerve's in your hands and fourarm or some type of alergic reaction to the incelation materal of the cable

Eek!  Actually, the current across the chest is what I was trying to avoid.  Keep your left hand in your back pocket.

The PC case may be the source of the current.  Not sure I would advocate testing it with your own personal self.  This could be an excuse to buy a volt meter/circuit tester :s25:

As for the wiring fault, that usually means that the wiring in that outlet is not properly grounded.  You can get cheap circuit tester at Home Depot which will tell you if that outlet is grounded or not.  This might be part of the problem.  That is, the PC, modem etc system would be grounded through the house wiring (good) and not yourself (bad).
