It's been raining and raining for more than the last two weeks. After Germany being hit by the flood, Austria is now severly affected by this strange high-summer weather.

Although the situation is about to releax in some areas, such as Salzburg, it is getting worse on other places - like Linz, one of the major cities on the Danube, whose water level is increasing and increasing every hour.

CNN Report CNN Report

The water is coming - a small stream next to the village I live has become an endangering river. Only have a meter seperates us here from lots of problems.
I have to take it partially with humour, as this is the time I'm going for my driving license. Today I had my first lesson with a Volkswagen Golf 4 TDI :) and I've seen about 6 army trucks and 3 fire brigade cars - so I get a lot to see...
On the other side my grand-aunt lives in one of the most affected areas - the Weinviertel in Lower Austria - and we haven't heard anything from her in the last week; although I think it's just a tech-issue with the telephone net, it's kinda disquietening....

according to the BBC news earlier today salzburg had been declared a disaster area. they implied it was getting worse in that area. i'm glad to see it's getting better. as for your aunt i'm sure that she'll be OK and that it's just the phonelines.

Me too, probably just the phone lines

Makes you wonder if it has anything to do with This It's been on the news all day today. Don't you just wish you could watch the news one day and it all good.  It's been a very bad week.

This is what's going to happen to the US if Bush doesn't wake-up,under Clinton(no pun intended)the US envermentel policyies were getting better. Now Bush is in office he is systemmaticaly rolling back pollicy's to were they were in the 1930's and 1940's :s15:  :s15: The people of the US have to wake-up before it is too late but historically we do not  :s14:

Yes, i know someone from Wien (Vienna) who put up a page with the flood pictures. Have a look at

http://www.nexidus.at/bilder/hochwasser2002/index.htm

I personally am living in Stuttgart, which is in Southern Germany as well, but we dont seem to have any problems. I think a week ago the people in northern Germany had it worse .. strong rain falls turned the City Hamburg into a second Venice ...
Well, i have to concur. The politics of Bush is currently inacceptable.

There is actually an excuse - USA has got a president who's not been elected by the majority of americans. I personally think, Al Gore would have been a much better choice. But those who cause these climatic changes in the environment are those who are going to feel it worst. The hurricanes will increase in number and strength for example .. we'll see.

Thanks for the kind words. Although the telephone lines are still down in several areas, the situation is now everywhere in Austria relaxing and the sun is shining again.

Now we'll be able to see the amout of damages which have been caused, €€€ !
