MY Friend is  aprogramming God. HE is f***ing Brilliant when it comes to programming. He asked me a question today, Would it be illegal for him to create his OWN operating System for himself only?

I think it would probably be ok, so long as he doesnt steal any copywritten ideas from any other os's. which might be difficult since microsoft had copywritten everything except the cardboard used to make their packaging!

Just a question for you... Have you heard of Linux
You can make your own flavor of Linux
But yes if you use anybodys else ideas or code there is laws against this, unless its OPEN SOURSE code like Linux
Now you know where this is some many distros of Linux
If he can program an intire OS by him self (this would be on #### of a task) I would love to support that with $$$ and also like to see its progress

It's no way illegal if he doesn't use other companies' code or violates any patents or other intellectual properties.

Besides him being a "programming god" I hope he also knows what creating an operating system, which is actually any use, takes in form of time, skill and experience. There have been thousands of OSes in development since the first computers appeared and only very few got to an usable status.

IMHO he should spend his time with something else, because what the world doesn't need is another operating system. Sure, researching the inner workings of a computer is interesting, but there is so much which hasn't been coded yet, one could actually make $$$ with. That's what I'd suggest him if he really has that much time ;)

Just my two European cents. ;) Now flame me :p but do it via email please and not here.
