First of all sorry for reposting this once again but i can't seem to find a solution to my question in any of the other topics.
As the topic title explains i'm having lockups playing SOF2 and Jedi Knight but let's focus on SOF2 since this is the SOF forum.
Well lockups playing SOF2 aint really correct. can't even get the game started.
=> at the startup of the game i see the activision logo and then the ravensoft logo. If I dont press any key before the Ravensoft logo animation is finished my system hangs (only option reset)
If i press a key i get the main menu. When i try to change the resolution 9 times outta 10 my system hangs on a completely white screen.
When i try to start the first single player mission sometimes i get to 3 bullets sometimes none whatsoever. But i never got to play any mission.

As you see these are some of the problems noted in other post but i haven't seen people posting the problems but i haven't seen any solutions (maybe i'm just not seeing them).
HELP

system specs:

Athlon TB 1400 MHZ
EPOX 8K7A+ mobo (combo northbridge/southbridge chipset)
2 * 256 DDR RAM 133 (same speed same brand)
40 GB WD UATA 100
Sblive Player!
Accton PCI ethernet 10/100 Mbps
250 Watt PS (it's not much but its enough)
DVDROM

Windows XP Pro

* temperature is fine CPU around 50-55 °C when stressed
* PS wattage fine too (i've tried it with minimum of stuff in it and replaced GF4 with old GF1 and it was still a nogo)
#### i even ripped my friends 340 PS and i didn't help.
* Drivers are all the most recent ones i could get my hands on. (again tested with a bare system only Graphics card mobo en HD)
* btw also applied the patch for SOF 2

Next thing up is trying another mobo. But you see i really don't want to open my comp again, i'm sick of it. But I really wanna play SOF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for this very long post

PS i played the demo (i had some trouble at first but worked it out and i got to play through the entire single player demo)

i have only tried single player so far. (Will try multiplayer when i get home tonight)
Yes with jedi knight i had the same kind of lockups ussualy just after startup(white screen) but jedi knight crashes about 5 times on 10 and when it don't crash on startup the game runs fine.
Yup i have Quake 3 but that runs perfectly. Can't get that to crash.
No overclocking whatsoever.
And i got the demo to run the way i got jedi knight to run.
After the ravensoft logo it either crashed or worked just fine. But changing stuff in the graphic options also crashed the game. so i left them alone.

Try running from the safe mode Sof2 shortcut...and then up the video settings until it crashes.

Try taking out 1 of the memories and see if that helps.

Try altering the com_hunkmegs in Q3A to a much larger value (so as to use both DIMMS) - say around 300; I've a feeling that will crash it too...

Update:

Multiplayer doesn't work either. After joining or creating a server the loading screen comes up and my system freezes.

Tried removing one Ramstick. Same trouble.
Removed the other to be sure (stuck the first back in :) ). Again no help whatsoever.
Thx for the advice though.
Well i'm still looking anybody else wanna take a shot at this. Would be appreciated

Well Nobody seems to know the solution to my problem.
I'm gonna return my game to the store and exchange it for another one.
Cause i've tried everything i could possibly think of and even more.
I'll just have to buy it again should a true solution arrive

Bye all

The problem is plainly not with the game code if it's extending across more than one game... I'd like to help you but I can't troubleshoot hardware very well long-distance, especially general problems like "lock-ups" under more than one application.  That's probably why most people haven't responded here: your problem is serious and system-related, not a problem related to SoF2.

If you are getting persistent lock-ups, there are a few general causes:

1) Heat.  Just because you think you're cooling your righ enough does not mean you are...

2) Power.

3) RAM

4) Overclocking beyond tolerances

There are numerous other potential causes.

Lock-ups that occur in more than one application are likely a hardware fault, not the fault of the app.

I'm curious.  What can you run?  Can you run other Q3 or OpenGL games?  Can you run D3D games?
