I was just hoping that someone at Raven, or someone that used to work at Raven *hint hint*, could explain the reasons behind not releasing the Single Player Source (SPS). From what I understand it has something to do with Activision/Paramount, however I would like to understand the reasons behind this move so that we as a community may somehow use this knowledge to ensure the release of EFII's SPS.

In my opinion this community could be so much larger if the SPS were released. I believe that there are many FPS modders out there that would like to make a MOD driven by a compelling story line (much like TDP). TDP is doing an excellent job, however I believe that the final product would look that much better with a custom GUI menu and other such items that could only be completed with the release of the SPS.

Thank you for any answers you may provide us.

I see you are a newbie so I'll try to give you a good explanation :)

The Single Player source is a lot different to the Holomatch code, which is more or less Quake 3 Arena in the Star Trek universe - although some things are programmed better than in Q3 ;)

The SP code, for example, contains Raven's own scripting language ICARUS, which I'm sure they want to keep secret - same applies for the Jedi Outcast SP source too...

I hope you understand now...  :s1:

But since the coop mod can understand the ICARUS scripts, couldn't the source code for that be used as a base for single player mods? Even if you don't want to give it away, is it theoretically possible to make a single player mod if you code your own ICARUS support?

Just rambling...

I DO give it away, but nobody seems to ask :p

Does anybody know aplace where I could get a free CVS repository for my coop mod - except SourceForge as their license interferes with Raven's and mine :)

There are four entities involved in decisions about releasing code for EF - Raven, Activision, Paramount and id. For whatever reason someone (I really do have no idea who or why) has not signed off on it. When EF2 comes out a similar structure will be in place, but it will be Ritual instead of Raven. If you want to get approval for release of the code, my guess is you'll have to find the right people in all those companies and convince them to agree before it happens.

Sorry

Thanks for the informative response MRJ. And just to let you know Snerd, despite my rank here on this board, I am not a newbie :D I was a member of the old Raven forums for a good year, if not more. Since before the demo anyways...
