just read over on the WFA (q3 mod) mailing list, there is a new aimbot that integrates things like auto-aim and wallhacking into 1 package.

the mod developers have ways to break these bots, but its an ugly solution... the worst part is that these cheats are going to be ported over to SOF2, EF, and other Q3 engine games that don't have some kind of persistant, adaptable, evolving cheat protection.

i guess the case for punkbuster just keeps getting better.  

also the case could be made for such cheaters to be found and documented via demo, their unique sof2 id's listed on a public "cheater" site, and banned from all internet servers reporting to the raven master server. then they could have fun with their bot in sp only

that kind of witchhunt would just result in innocent people getting banned.

Yeah.  So what?

Have a mechanism for restoring people.  Use that as warnings.

Then, if people have been on and off the list X number of times, ban them for good.

Don't get me wrong, but people have a right to cheat as much as you don't think so. Especially if they bought the game. That's how I see it.

I think it is up to the developer to produce something to counteract it.

And do you know you can do very little to prove it? Even with a demo. How do you nail someone cheating with and aimbot using a demo? You have no proof there's no evidence, perhaps he is just that good? Then with the times today, you can sue and make a big racket that doesn't look good at all for the game.

True, servers are persons property, but if you don't block who you dont want in, then its an open playing field. They have as much right as the next person to come to your server.

That's why I am saying its up to the game developer to come up with schemes to defeat these cheats.

Thats my idea on it all. Cheaters suck, but it is a fact of life for virtually anything you play on the net.

No one has a "right" to enter another person's server.  Playing on someone else's server is a privelage.  If you can't play by their rules (and cheating is inherently against the rules), you have no business being there.

i think you misinterpreted what i was saying. I didn't mean they have a "right" to go on your server, i just meant that like anyone they "can" go on your server. Since there is no preventative maintenance in the game for these exploits they can get on anywhere. actually i shouldn't have used the term "right", i meant really, "ability". sorry.

if you feel someone is cheating and it's your server feel free to ban. but without proof that anyone is actually cheating, i fail to see how one could substantiate one person cheating from the next. you could be kicking or banning innocent people who are just good.

i personally think all this cheating stuff is all bs. meaning, until i see a valid video of someone cheating, then i don't believe they exist. it's all in your heads.

The hacks exist for q3 based games.  It's either denial or ignorance to think they won't show up for sof2 sooner or latter.  

I've seen an avi demo off this q3 based cheat, I certainly hope it does not get ported to sof2 very quickly.
