I've been looking at video cards lately and I've wonder which I will most benefit from; cost, performance, etc.

I've scouted different stores and found the ATI Radeon 8500LE 128mb DDR AGP which seems semi-cost efficient. Does anyone use this graphic card? Would you recommend it?

But I've also spotted the PNY Verto GeForce4 ti 4400 128mb DDR AGP graphics card. Twice as much, but must people on this forum brag about how great it is. Does it deserve bragging rights or is it just as good anything ATI can make?

Any suggestions and or recommendations on which is the better buy? :s17:

ATI Radeon 8500LE 128mb DDR AGP Product features:

- Powered by the ATI RADEON 8500LE graphics processor
- 128MB double data rate (DDR) memory
- Awesome 3D gaming and graphics performance
- 250MHz clock speed
- TRUFORM technology for lifelike 3D characters
- SMARTSHADER enables more complete and realistic lighting effects
- HYPER Z II technology for higher graphics memory bandwidth
- SMOOTHVISION advanced anti-aliasing for smoother-looking images
- High-resolution 32-bit 3D gaming up to 2048 x 1536
- Dual-display support for CRT monitors and TVs
- Video-out connects PC to a TV or VCR for recording
- AGP 2X/4X interface

PNY Verto GeForce4 Ti 4400 128MB DDR AGP Product features:

- AGP interface
- 128MB DDR SDRAM memory
- 8.8GB/sec. memory bandwidth
- Lightspeed Memory Architecture II
- nVidia nfiniteFX II engine
- nVidia nView display technology
- Unified Driver Architecture (UDA)
- High-Definition Video Processor (HDVP)
- Enhanced vertex and pixel shaders with Z-Correct bump mapping
- Accuview anti-aliasing for enhanced game realism
- TV-out and video modules
- Part of the nVidia GeForce4 Titanium series

Note: These may not be the companies latest cards so if there is any other cards you would like to suggest feel free.

Even though I really really like ATI and Radeon (thanks to them nVidia has to make better products) I would go with nVidia, GeForce. Did nvidia ever let us down? Their drivers frequent update rocks!

ATI is going to release Radeon 9700, which kicks ass currently, but that just gonna make nvidia put more stuff into NV30. Can't wait for announcement of NV30, that is going to be awesome.

It's pretty much your own preference, but I would go with nVidia. Just dont get anything right now, wait like a month or 2, nvidia will announce NV30, going to bring prices down somewhat.

Id go for the Geforece 4 Ti 4400 for sure cuz its a much faster card than the ATI.  Basically, the more you pay, the better u get.   :s23:  :s24:

GF4 will give you a slight performance edge, but much better AA.  Radeon will give you anisotropic filtering with almost no performance hit, and better overall visual quality, plus the Rage Theatre chip...

It's a draw.  Pure frames and AA - take the GF4.  Slight performance loss overall for superior quality - Radeon 8500.

That said, if you wait two weeks for ATI's release of the Radeon 9000 to knock prices down a bit, you might save some coin.

I have a Radeon 8500LE.  After using Nvidia since the Riva128 days, it'll take a lot to get me away from ATI now.

I would have to agree with hunter s. thomspon here

a few months ago i bought a gf4 ti4600 and though it was pretty darn expensive, have absolutely dug the heck out of it from day one

very fast, no vid lag, beautiful effects, etc.

Yeah, pretty much what Hammer said.
GeForce - pure speed.
Radeon - less speed but excelent quality graphics.

I've been with nVidia ever since 3dfx got bought by it. i think im gonna try new radeon (9700), whenever it comes out.

Both of those cards have 10bit DAC so there really isn't a signifigant image quality issue/difference at this point. The older GF series cards had lacked iq but that's changed now.If it was me I'd but a 4200 and oc it or go with the 8500le oc'ed and wait till Doom3 for the card you really need.
