This post was created July 23, Andrax.

Phobos happened to bump it up and I responded telling him I already bought a card.

Pvt:Hudson what is this Refresh Rate Fixer? :s22: What Refresh Rate do you use now? What problems did you have? What was fixed?

It's called the Nvidia Refresh Rate fix:

http://www.planetquake.com/ztn/nvreffix/

When I upgraded from 98 to Xp all of a sudden my monitor was stuck at 60hz. Well, to be precise I could have it at 85hz (my max) on the desktop but any games I played brought it right back to 60. So I tried this program and bingo all my games play at 85hz like they should.
However the last time I checked the program only works with older Nvidia drivers, of which 23.11 I found to be the best for me.

I was gonna post this question in a new topic but figured  since the Radeon and Gforce Topic is still fresh to post it here.
I am planning on buying a new video card in the next day or so. Currently I have a TNT 2 Ultra 32mg nvidia card. It was working fine (Was getting 60 FPS). More recently though Ive been getting 40 FPS and on RMG maps even lower. It has a Core clock speed of 150 mhz. The video cards I am considering buying are the Gforce 4 TI 4200 (64mgs) (Clock speed of 250 mhz) and the Gforce 4 MX 460 (64 mgs) (Clock speed of 300 mhz)

Basically I want raw performance. I don't mind if my graphics are downgraded abit. My question is:

Will the faster the Clock speed in a card increase my Frames Per Second when playing games?

I did notice Ramrod saying to "stay away from the MX series altogether" in another post. But the MX has a faster clock speed.

Or does the amount of FPS you get take into consideration other aspects of the video cards such as (Vertices per Second, Fill Rate, Operations per Second, Memory Bandwidth, Maximum Memory) instead of just the clockspeed?

Thnks

I have a GF3 200 Ti @ 100Hz desktop and 120Hz SOF2, newest drivers, XP Pro.

I say wait for the ATI 9000 series or the next Nvidia card. The new Nvidia card should come out when DirectX 9 comes out, at the end of this year.

I think many people forget to take into consideration that they have UPGRADED from win 98 to xp. If you do a CLEAN install of Windows XP PROFESSIONAL you should have NO PROBLEMS with ANY video card. Another thing that people do is download OLD drivers or download drivers from UN-CERTIFIED sites. If people would just stick with clean installs instead of upgrades and certified drivers (like the ones from the manufacturers website) they would not have nearly as many problems.
As far as which card to use, I have a pny gf4 ti4400 and am quite pleased, though i wish i had the option to disable fog rendering (fog sucks on rmg maps). ATI certainly is putting pressure on nvidia and they do make some nice cards, but nvidia still has the edge for now (meaning until the 9200 or whatever it is comes out), but they are close at hand with the nv30 or whatever. I would recommend the nvidia cards until ati gets a better foothold on 3d cards.
