snipers vs campers

sniper, someone using a scoped weapon to take out enemies on the other side of the map as support (in DM role, there is no real goal but score, I would consider this sniping OK).

camper, someone using a non-descript weapon that covers one specific area for (usually) close combat situations, where he can feel protected from all sides. No support role, in team games this is pointless - in DM it can work.

On another note, just because someone is sitting somewhere waiting on you darting around the corner, does not mean that they are "campers" in the "bad" sense of the word - it is a good tactic, and usually gets the kill. Just so long as they do advance towards the goal eventually (flag, case, whatever)

And never ever call someone a camper when he just heard you, moved quietly into a dark corner and is waiting for the perfect sneaky kill... happened to me quite a few times ???

I need to clarify something.
In team-based games, there are snipers.
In DM, they're called CAMPERS for short. Or d@mn fvcking n00b lame rat bastard son of a b1tch motherfvcker campers.
I've heard that and more.
I don't like the sniper rifle. That doesn't mean I don't like those who use it to defend their position and their team. I like snipers. It's campers I hate. I love it when I get the flag/briefcase and i get one in the head out of nowhere. Skill rules. In DM, the sniper rifle gets you nowhere. Get moving and look for a rifle, or I'll find you and kick your camping @ss!   :s10:

lol I agree to a 'T'.  I don't have the patience for sniping.  My DM gaming background goes back to the days of the original Doom where if you stood still for more than a fraction of a second you were labeled a camper, so I *never* stop moving (which annoys my enemies oh so much).  My fix for campers in DMs is that in our mapcycles I turn the speed up pretty high, somewhere in the neighborhood of 640.  That pretty much renders the campers ineffective (especially on HiWire2 one of my favourite DM maps).  The whole reason I invented the 'plant' command in the PSYCHO Mod is due to my revilement of campers.

Back in the day of larger doom maps, and nowhere really to hide, and the fact that weapons and stuff were not as good (in terms of "netcode") meant that you did run about.

In DM, I suppose, thats what its about tho.

I like this game for the "realism" of weapons and gameplay... If someone wants to snipe, then I don't see anything wrong with it - the weapon is included in the game as standard.

I am a good sniper when I wanna be, or feel like sniping. However, I am basically only good at sniping on the RMG's, and bigger stock maps. Sometimes on a small stock map I will get just a "little" lucky.  :s1:

when i snipe i usually use any secondary, uzi/shotty/m3a1, its all good. but sometimes i tend to stay away from the grease gun, it can be very saddening sometimes.
also, i only like sniping on rd servers he he, that way i get more kills b/c of my fast reaction  :D normal damage just isn't good enough, if u don't snipe the person in the head on your first shot, he'll just run away and there goes your kill.

What about a situational sniper like myself here?
I usually use AK/MP5/M4, but when I see my enemy far away from me, I would drop my primary weapon and pick up a sniper weapon somewhere and shoot them, then drop that and pick up an AK/MP5/M4 and start my fraging again?
