Ramrod, a while ago you said you could run sof without dropping below 60fps in all of prague.  I'm still trying to tweak my system since when I last posted, and I'm wondering what you get on 3dmark 2001se.  I'm just wondering if I need to do more tweaking .. well I just wanna know how the 3dmark scores relate to the game

Hi,  I've done quite a bit of tweaking,  but a lot of it is self defeating (see last para)

Try the following to reduce your ping........

If on Broadband.....
  Set SNAPS to 40
  Set RATE to 25000
  Set MAX PACKETS to 40

If you've got loads of memory.  Try com_hunkmegs "128",  it won't reduce your ping but speeds up map loading times, the second time you load a map.   This only works in Multiplayer, single player does nowt with it.

Other things to try are...

cg_predictitems "0"
cg_nopredict "0"
cl_packetdup "1"

Make sure you backup your config file first, just in case.

I did all these and my ping (cable modem) has dropped from 40/50 down to 20/30,  but you are far more suceptable to LAG.   I think the high RATE, takes up too much of the available bandwidth, and it tends to be you who suffers not the others.

I couldn't remember the cvars,   but they're summat like

cg_snaps "40"
cg_rate "25000"
cg_maxpackets "40"

just have a look through your config file,  they are pretty obvious when you see em.    

I'm on Cable Modem 512kbps.

dunno if 256kps counts as broadband,  could do though,  non-broadband ie. Narrowband refers to dial-up modems.
