Quite simply this game is the most demanding piece of software I have ever come across, and I've been into this stuff since the SEGA SC-3000. Anyone old enough to remember those? Thats like 1985. Anyway, I think people will find that unless you have a high-end system with a state-of-the-art 3D card it's going to run like #### at any kind of high detail. Makes sense to me. Just wait till Doom3 comes out. We'll really see some fps complaints then.

actually a lot of people with slower rigs than todays top of the range get very good fps with settings maxed out, very high texture detail

also, Doom III is designed to run on a geforce3, so there wont be many complaints about framerate from those with a geforce4 or radeon 8500, provided ID make a good job of optimising it (which they usually do)

My point was....There seems to be a lot of people complaining about low frame rates when their hardware is clearly not up to the job of rendering this game. The same complaints were heard about Operation Flashpoint. Some fool with a Duron 850 and GF2 MX200 wonders why he only gets 15 fps.....come on! This is what I mean when I refer to DOOM III. Most people with GF2's and GF4 MX's will not be able to render this game with any kind of detail.

Yes legion your right, but we are having plenty of people with 2gig machines and a gf4 that are getting worse perfomance than people with geforce2s. This is what the real problem is.
Well at least for me and my gang.

Doom 3's technology surpases any current video cards performance by a considerable amount. The well known movie that is floating around internet was made with the next generation Radeon card. Geforce 3 and 4 will probably be able to run the game but I think if you want to see some real detail then you will need to get something with a bit more beef than today's cards...

I was under the impression that DOOM III was engineered using GeForce3 NfiniteFX technology. Therefore GeForce4 Ti users with NfiniteFX II capabilities should have no problems with this game. Remember, it's the hardware thats ahead of software these days. Developers have to try to keep up with the break-neck speed 3D graphics technology is released. But then, I'm just a lowly A+ certified computer technician so what do I know.....

ATI = The devil

And not to disrespect you Legion... but what does being A+ certified have anything to do with... well... anything?

There are about a gazillion of us that are "Certified" but it doesnt mean much imho.  It especially doesnt mean that people actually know their stuff.  I was blown away at how basic the A+ test was.
