i've got a athlon xp 1600+ 256mb and gf2 ti and i have a prob woth my copy of sof2(week old) . ican't fully install it with no probs but when i start it the starting console gives me a message "cannot load default.cfg" sp and mp. i thought that it was meant to create one at start up.. someone please help or can someone send me a copy of their config files... please please please thanks

I have the same issue. Nobody has answered any of my questions. I cant even start the dang single player game.

if you downloaded the demo the SP or MP go back to those demo folders in your harddrive and delete them.

Prove to me then from the details I have given you that this is NOT a software problem. OK just in case you want them again here we go. On ME boot up I can install, run and play quite happily SOF2 but if I boot using XP Pro I install fine but then get "Error during initialization SYSTEM ERROR Couldn't load default.cfg". I have ran defrag, scandisk, set screen to 640x480 16bit colour, ran Wiser and all I get is CRC errors on most PK3 files. Tried to copy direct from CD to drive and still get CRC after running Wiser. (By the way I dont know if this helps but it is a BIG problem with XP Pro and SOF2 running in the UK and not down to just a few handful of people) So come on theres the challenge, now lets see how good you are. In fact let lets see if you allow me to post this challenge on the group for all to see because if your as good as you say you are this will be childs play to you.

nah i haven't got the demo. it's kinda wierd i had xp pro on before i formatted and sof2 worked absolutely great and and now i can get it to work. i'm thinking of getting a replacement copy.

if ya cant run wiser and get your pak files to show as correct you have a problem .. most likely your cd drive cannot read the cd properly if you cannot copy the pak files from the cd to your harddisk ..you still have a problem

the problem = your cd drive sucks

i installed the game fine with an old 16 speed cd rom drive ... as well as a sony 24 x drive as well as a 40x speed drive i think i bought 3 years ago

if your drive is a mixed media drive such as a as cd/dvd drive or a cd /cdrw drive try setting the cd rom drives cache files size to 0 or none or small ..if that still fails buy a cheap ass 24 x drive for 10 bucks and install the game

how do ya have the cd configured also ..on what speed dma channel ?

is dma checked .. if so uncheck that box for your cd rom properties XP by the way is chok full of system services that you do not need running ..that will only eat memory .. plus make sure you have NO antivirus software running in the backround why installing SOF 2 DH

Widowmaker how does the cd drive work for windows ME and not windowsXP Professional? A friend of mine is suffering the same issue.

LoL... if it works on your system under any O/S i dont see how you can say its anything other then a system issue on your end. If you can install the game on your PC and play it under ME and not on XP then sounds like something is really wrong with your XP install. While I do not live in the UK and dont run any UK versions of software on my PC, I have no issues what so ever running SoFII under WindowsXP.

Have you installed it under the new OS? With older OS the files will not preform when you upgrade. It is wise to install again after upgrade to get newer drivers.
