No, but headphones are better for determining which side the sounds are coming from, rather than the sounds from both speakers interfering and you getting confused ;)

AFAIK Counter-strike has *no* EAX support in multiplayer concerning reflections and stuff but it *does* have 4 speaker surround sound and if you ask me that got nothing to do with the netcode, that's just a matter of how your own clientpc renders the sound

sure probably your FPS will drop a little and even more if you're using a live not an audigy that's coz your pc has to think about where to make the sound come from and mix the 4 speakers but that's got nothing to do with netcode

in cs i have ping 30-40 on Jolt servers in SoF2 i have 50-60 and cs has 4 point surround support, SoF2 hasn't so i don't think the positional sound influences the netcode

i have noticed that alltho sof2 doesn't provide true 4 speaker support, i CAN hear exactly where the enemies are coming from - which means sof2 does add somekind of doppler effect or something right? or am i just being telepatic? ;)

i just love it in cs when i'm firing and a few others in my team are too and i hear their footsteps and gunshots in my rear speakers, also when i shoot and i run i hear my gunshots coming from my gun and i hear the bullets falling on the ground in my rear speakers it owns :)

adding EAX effects is harder i think then they'll have to add environment areas or something to the maps i dont know how it's arranged - but just 4 point positional audio should be possible right?

Ahhhh yes.  Another patch or addition of software to SoF2.  I'm sure this won't fu** anything up. :s10:  Although JK2 with its MP EAX sound is pretty cool.  Raven, and whoever else, just make sure they sh!t works for be4 you release it.  If, you release it.

JC777.  To answer your question:

5.1 Surround

1-Left Channel
2-Center Channel
3-Right Channel
4-Rear Left Channel
5-Rear Right Channel
.1-Subwoofer

This gets you your 5.1 speaker configuation.

DVD's are almost 100% of the time coded with 5.1 Digital Surrond sound.  Thats why you get sound from the center, front, and rear and sub.  Now, most media files and mp3's are not coded with 5.1 Digital Surround, rather 4.1 or stereo really.  So there is no center channel signal in media and mp3's and games.  Thats why you dont get sound from that speaker, except on DVD's.  You can change that in your sound config. to get sound from the center speaker anytime, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm happy with 4.1 in MP as long as the rear speakers work realtime and r not just a copy of the front speakers.
