Have you noticed that if you fire a rocket or a grenade, or throw a knife and die before they hit, they just vanish?
That's really annoying.

Actually, your grenades remain (and explode) after you die, if you managed to throw them.

It appears fragger is saying that if the nade is still in the air (not from a bounce) it disappears.

Firestorm u sure have a lotta posts but 1/2 the time i read one it seems u don't actually GET what's really being discussed.

Someone reported this to me but I tested it myself and found that they do in fact continue and explode.  It happens all the time.

1) Player A sees a sniper (player B)
2) Player A shoots a rocket at player B
3) Player B takes players A's head off
4) Rocket hits player B, both people die.

Ive seen the same thing with m203 shots and mm1 shots.

hmm.

It does happen Apoxol, it's just that the delay is so minute you'd probably have trouble replicating it.

It's similar to the lost bullets I described while back. It's when you fire a bullet, but before your "message" reaches the server you're dead, so the message is ignored at the server even though you've just watched it happen on your screen.

Basically a side effect of the anti-lag code, because if you were playing without the anti-lag code, you would never see the m203 fire at all. It's firing is delayed until the server gets the message, but because you're already dead you don't see it, even though, like the anti-lag example, your message did reach the server but was extinguished by your death.

So, with the player A and B examples:

Player A has 30 ping, Player B has 200:

At 0.0 seconds, player B fires his m203 at player A - he sees the animation begin on his screen
At 0.1 seconds (=100ms), player A fires a bullet into player B's head
At 0.13 seconds (=100ms + 30ms) server recieves message from player A that player B is hit and dead
At 0.2 seconds (=200ms) server recieves message that player B has fired m203, but player B died at 0.13 seconds, so the firing of the m203 never takes place

Well once, I was playing INF and Blue got the case, we met with 5   feet between us, I took him down with an M203 grenade and he killed me with a pump shottie, we both died.  No delay at all.

You guys, this problem exists in practically every online MP game. It's not a big deal for me.

Name me one game where you and another player can both shoot each other's heads off at the same time with the same gun...I know I can't think of one.

The grenades usually continue to go off even when u die, and ive gotten knife kills by hitting someone with a thrown knife even after I've been killed. It all depends on ping, packetloss, server, ect.

That's why I said it's hard to replicate, because most of the time the server gets the message of the m203 fire before the player dies (it's a 200ms window where player A has to kill player B). Under the right circumstances, such as a low ping vs high ping player, the example above could be replicated.

Once again though, we are talking about Projectiles, not Hand Grenades.

Raghead, ping will always be a factor in online gaming, its just now it's a different (lesser) factor and you get some side effects.

It sounds like what you're describing is the effects of client-side prediction of events being out-of-synch with the server.
Yes, if you do something that is handled locally and the server receives the "you got killed" event before it receives your action, then it's not going to register your action.
