I have played the game without any lock ups up until the hong kong docks level (a good 4 or 5 hours into the game).  Now, the first time I got onto this level i got quite far into it it (out of the boat, across the docks, through the streets) played it for about 15mins or so until i died.  Everytime I play this level now from the begining of level autosave, the game freezes, or freezes and displays a black screen with the sound looping.  This occurs at the exact same point every time (start the level, go up to the 2nd level of the boat, out of the door onto the deck and crash)

I can go back and play through any of the preceding levels without a problem at all, multiplayer works like a dream as does the random mission generator.

Will it help if I can email this save game to someone at raven to look at?

Run this utility from your game directory & replace any corrupt files it finds with ones from the CD. RE-run utility until all files come up OK.
As regardsing loading the game try selecting "Load game from start of level" rather than whatever autosave you have

Yes I have run the installation checker and everything is ok.  I am using the start of level save, sorry if this was unclear.  I have also tried loading from the start of level save and then doing a manual save and loading it, but it still crashes at the exact same point.

Hmmm, think it might be related to fog in the game (unlikely though as you said RMG works fine *& presumably the Seaward Star level)?
Open the myconfig.cfg file with Wordpad & try adding in;
bind F10 "hash sv_cheats 1; wait 5; r_drawfog 0"
(replace F10 with some unused key if its already taken). After the level loads press F10. That will disable fog, which is used in Hong Kong. See if the game crashes at that point then.

Try deleteing the last couple of game~saves and finishing the prior mission again..., game~saves can corrupt.

Fanks Thomas    turning off the fog has actually worked!  I havn't been able to play the sp game for weeks because of this and must have tried playing the docks level well into double figures.  I just tried it and it worked straight away   Cheers again!
