There's no 3D positioning now. Plain old stereo output.
All they need do is add DirectSound3D support & you'll get 3d audio for headphones, 2, 4, 5.1 output (more if a soundcard supports that in DS3D).

why? ..it's not part of the quake 3  code .. it would take months   (not saying it is not in the works ) but   it would take months to add this to the code ..  remember  the game is based off a quake 3  engine .. which did not support EAX when it shipped  

agan think how old the quake 3 engine itself is ?

everyone points to CS and says well  counterstikes has it ..  umm who wrote CS .. not  valve   it was a MOD

valve bought it   and have milked  CS and halfile for   how many   months and years ..so yea   it works in CS  as does the voice .. but how many ppl had time and effort to look into the code for cs   and  halflife  over the past few  years ..raven  is currently working on several NEW projects at once

plus we all know ZQ has left the building ..(dammit i wish he was here to answer this  question..but he's stuck in his giant tomatoe suit most likely.. entertaining  alot of kids )


he did alot of the sound work  on SOF2 ..   not saying he   hasn't been replaced .. and he in fact told me the problem was there was no EAX  in the original codebase for quake 3  and it would take  some months to implement   and   it might not work at all in MP ...but his replacement will have to get up to speed on alot of other issiues      plus have to work  most likely on several projects at once  just as all of ravensoft does ..

remember  also  running  eax  eats   system resources   and could possibly be a problem   for alot of users with non compatable    sound cards

Mmh ... but it's not like ... well ... they got it into SP right? I know it's not just a matter of copying code but I don't want the special effects when I'm in a wide open space, in a corridor or in a big room. I know that's not easy. But just basic 4 speaker support. All new soundcards support 4 speakers - ment for 4 speaker surround gaming.

Well ... Whatever, you are the programmers - I'll stop wanking ;)

Guess the guy who said it wouldnt be made was kinda right anyways lol.

BTW is sof2 now officially abandoned by Raven ?
