Hey Raven, will you guys ever make a new Heretic/Hexen game?
I loved Heretic, I still make Wads for it from time to time. Hexen was good as was Hexen 2 and Heretic 2, but a Hexen 3 would be amazing right now, with the Q3 engine or maybe the Doom3 engine?

It really would be the perfect time now wouldn't it.  I can understand that, as a corporate decision, Activision would want Raven to handle all the big licenses (like Starwars, Startrek, etc.) since Raven is their best dev team, but I hope they haven't forgotten that Raven was successful and popular before Activision snatched them up.
My fear is they let the comparative market failure of Heretic2 speak against continuing the series.  The only reason Heretic2 didn't sell (and I strongly believe this) is because Activision focused all their attention on Sin and barely advertised Heretic2's existence.  I'm sure more people would have bought it had they known of it.

BTW Ice, love your maps. :)  Heretic maps come along so rarely it's always a special treat.

I'm not sure how a fantasy based FPS would do in the market, nowdays. It would have the option of picking classes for single player and multi. And of course have lots of melee weapons, instead of just one, third person style. Heretic2 rox.

I dont know anything about the history of H2 and Sin but Sin didnt do well from what i've read either. I think i've read that Half-Limp out did them.

Firebrandt, I am glad you like my maps. Thanks.

I think a new Hexen game would sell rather well, games like Blades of Darkness fared pretty poorly because of poor marketing, although Rune fared a bit better. At least the Hexen/Heretic series has a strong following and is known in the FPS community. Just imagine some of the architecture in Blades of Darkness or RTCW and think Hexen and man you have the premise for a good game, architecture wise. Hexen 2 had a funny ending to it with the guy closing out the book of deeds and some shadowy character was behind him with red eyes, looks like the basis for a sequel there.

i wouldnt mind either, Hexen is and always will be one of my favourites :) but anyways:

1. Hexen. R0x0r. nuff said. :s12:
2. Hexen 2. downrightgay. a let down. not sure why but... i liked the first one more.
3. Heretic the original / 2. both i rate teh same. as in not bad :)

thing id mostly want to see is a remake of the first hexen on for example Q3 engine.

That's why I've been hating SIN for four years!

You and I think very much alike, although I don't think Hexen II is gay, a bit tedious but not bad. And yes, the level design and gameplay of the original Hexen II outshines just about any other fps in terms of shear fun, and the graphics (for it's time) were absolutely top notch. I'd like to see a real sequel to Hexen but I'd also like to see a remake of the first one in full 3D, hi-res textures with specular highlights, shadowmapped lighting, etc., the works. Hexen is probably my favorite PC game of all time (haven't played System Shock 2 yet so that may change) and I really wish Raven would do more with it. But at the same time I don't want them to go all out in graphics in presentation and then make a bunch of little mistakes that spoil the game (SOF2, JK2, etc.). We'll just have to wait and see.

I didn't really think Elite Force or Soldier of Fortune 2 were great titles. I mean they didn't suck but I felt they lacked that special "magic" found in Hexen/Heretic games. Man I still play Heretic once a year, all 5 episoddes a la Jheretic.

Elite Force was short and the gameplay was too easy, Soldier 2 had the worst stealth missions ever created in a games. Where are these guys pulling alarms?

Jk2 started slowly but caught on later. Soldier 1 was intense and set out to be a good action game which it accomplished.

Yet we still need a new Heretic/Hexen game!
