Ok. This IS NOT a ####ing hardware issue. Lets start there.
I have 2 computers next to me, BOTH lockup during gameplay.
Specs: PC1 Athlon 1800+ Tbred / Volcano 7+ Soyo KT400 DRAGON Ultra Platinum 1GB Samsung PC-2700 CL2.5 (2x512MB) Leadtek GF4 TI4600 Antec Truepower 550w PSU SB! Live 5.1 Linksys LNE100TX Drives: WD1200JB (2, raid 0); WD800JB (2, raid 0); WD1000BB, Seagate 20GB :: Samsung 16x dvd rom; Yamaha 8x8x24 burner
PC2 Athlon 1700+ Palomino / Volcano 6cu+ ECS mobo, forget exact model. SiS chipset. 1GB PC-2100 CL2.5 (512x2 : Generic, same brand) Leadtek GF4 Ti4200 8x Antec Smartpower 400w PSU Drives: WD300BB, WD800JB; 52x generic cd rom, Plextor 40x12x40 cdrw
Both have been fully patched, reinstalled, etc etc..
PC1's cpu temps with fan on high are high 30's / low 40's under 100% load.. Up to 50 with fan on low. This makes no difference in the lockups, since this cpu isn't unstable at 55C. Been tested thoroughly. I don't lockup in anything else (IE: Unreal II).
PC2's temps are generally mid 40's to low 50's. Again, it's not unstable due to temp. Both have well vented cases (PC1: 4x3000rpm fans, PC2: 2 intake 3000rpm, 1 output Vantec Tornado).
Both are using the newest video card drivers. I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps this is a botched driver release from nvidia.
These are rather different pcs. PC1 ran it fine until recently (Again, makes me wonder about the nvidia drivers). PC2 hasnt had much success with it period.
Considering both of these run things like BF1942, Unreal II, RTCW, etc without bitching, endlessly, I would NOT say it's hardware. Granted, this doesnt change the fact that MANY MANY people here have temps causing their issues (In my experiences, AMD's tend to lockup in the 60's anyways, rather than cooking themselves) |

Quote | The 1.03 patch fixed a lot of problems for people that couldn't play before...but a lot of people that could play, cannot any longer.
|
no it never.
quote from the readme file.
Quote | 1.03: Maps - Added rebuilt mp_col2 to fix known map hole. - Added new Kamchatka map mp_kam5 - Added new Jordan map mp_jor1 - Added new Shop map mp_shop2 Other - Added new shell art to update to GOLD Edition - Fixed disappearing weapon issue on certain maps |
the single player exe was not touched in the 1.03 patch at all. the mp exe was changed to sort a network issue. |

I posted earlier in RamRods hard lock topic about my problems with SP in SoF2 and i can say for sure that my crashes are not caused by a temperature problem. I am runnin a AMD 2400+ at 32°C-40°C, MB at 25-29 according to Asus Probe. The Temperatures shown in Bios are even lower than that. No mixed memories, no fancy crap, 380W PS ... still in Prague. |
