Ok I am not getting lockups I am getting hard crashes, but in light of the request from this thread I am including my system specs and temp information although I do not believe my issue is heat related.  First off the error I am receiving is a hard crash with about 3 minutes of play.  Crashes to the desktop with the following error.

"Runtime error" Abnormal program termination, this has varied with a couple of other errors too.  All about the same thing.

My system

OS: Winxp Pro SP1
Case: Antec SX1040B with 6 35.5 CFM 80MM Cooling fans 3 in front, one in side above AGP, and Two in real out, + two in Power supply out.
MB:Abit BD7II (latest bios)
CPU: INTEL Pentium 4(b) 2.26Mhz 533bus
RAM:Crucial 512MB PC2100 CL2.5 DDR at 533Mhz (133X4)
Video: Visiontek Geforce 4 Ti4600 (no oc) (det 40 drivers)
Sound: SB Audigy (latest drivers)
NIC:Onboard Realtek 10/100
CD-ROM(s):Liteon 48X12X48 CD-RW/Liteon16X48 DVD
GAME: Soldier of Fortune 2 patched to 1.02
System Temp IDLE 1 hour CPU:43.5C CASE:35C
System Temp Load (SOF2) 10 minutes CPU:47C CASE:41C

Again my system just crashes.  Can however go right away and run Battlefield 1942 or Unreal Tournament 2003, or MOHAA for hours and no problems.  I think those games tax my system just as much, if not moreso.

-E

any thoughts?

Eclypse, your not going to get any answers here im afraid....

The only people that have been helped here so far from what i can tell, are the folks unaware of the fairly well known problems with trying to run more than 4 Banks of DDR ram..
or the incompatabilities of certain DDR with various DDR mobos......
But the real problem which is seemingly some kind of coding/scripting glitch in the GAME....NOT your "hardware" will not ever be addressed nor admitted....

A "runtime error" is an error within the programs code...period.........

Hmmm, 1,922 post ....lets see, thats about 1,800 excuses for the real problem and about 122 people helped that had a well known hardware related problem concerning DDR ram & Mobos...

If it's an error in the code, why doesn't everyone have your problem? I played single player all the way thru with no problems whatsoever as have countless other people.

Hi All
I have to agree with Ramrod. It cannot be any errors in the code. There are thousands of us out here with no problems with the game at all. It runs like water off of a ducks back for me.
If it is not hardware related for you then it could be that you may have a faulty disc?

I had crashes all the time with this game when i first installed it, and with other games too. I solved it by taking Ramrods advice and removing one of my Ram strips, it worked for me! I put the Ram strip back in and the problems re-appeared. This proves that it was the memory that was causing "my" pc to crash / hang, and not just with SOF2, but with MOHAA too and others.

Anyway, my specs are:
1200 AMD Athlon
256 DDR (one stick)
ASUS A7M266 MOBO
Riva TNT 16 mb graphics card (Works for me).
128 PCI sound card
8.4 gig Hard drive
All drivers updated
Windows XP Pro.

Ramrod, how about I turn that question around to say if it's a problem with my machine, why can I play every other state of the art game out there with no such lock ups at all?

When I play single player, the game will go fine for 20 seconds or so, then the video will freeze and the audio will stutter, like a record skipping, then unfreeze for 20 seconds then freeze again ect...

Yes, I have the 1.02 patch and yes all my drivers are up to date and yes I applied the winxp/AMD page registry tweak, and no my machine does not get too hot when playing.

And yes I actually did expect this game to work out of the box.  All games have bugs, (sadly) but this... how did the game ever get out the door like this?  Oh yes, it works on YOUR machine, I forgot.

my machine:

windows xp pro sp1
Dual Athlon mp2000+
1GB Corsair PC2400
Geforce 4 Ti4600 not oc'ed
Tyan Tiger MPX s2466

This happens on both high quality and low quality settings.

And YES, I can play multiplayer literally for HOURS with NO lockups.

well, after running the tests, i was running 158F on average before crash, so i went and got a cooling system, and a 600Watt power suppy (great deal just 39.99 brand new couldnt pass that up) and NOW with 4 fans, one side of the case off (the open side that gives access to the insides) AND a little moving fan on the outside plugged in the wall, instead of locking up at 158, im locking up at 132-135, i am saying it isnt a heat issue. this is both MP and SP

edit for specs:

ATI RADEON 128MB 8500LE
Asus A7V333MoBoard, 512mb 333mhz DDR memory
Western Digital 80gb hard drive
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Athlon XP 2000+ processor
Windows Xp Home Edition
