I posted most of this in another thread, but I wanted to start a new one too.
Just got SOF2 the other day and it keeps locking up right at the beginning of the first mission. Right as that door opens, it locks up. The screen freezes on an image (or goes completely black about 30% of the time) and the last sound effect plays in an endless loop. Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL doesnt let me exit out of the game and I have to do a hard reboot with the reset button.
I think the problem may be sound related. Because I went into the audio properties and set the sound driver to NONE. Now the game plays fine with no lockups. But as soon audio is re-enabled, it locks up again.
I am using the integrated C-Media audio chip on my motherboard.
I am using the DirectSound driver and not the EAX driver. Any time I try, and hit 'apply changes' it defaults back to none. Which is fine, I know my audio chip doesn't support EAX anyway.
I also tried one of the Random Missions last night with the same result. I played fine with no sound for several minutes, then I went into the options menu and enabled sound. Not more than 30 seconds later the game totally locked up. Even pressing ALT+CTRL+DEL had no effect. I had to reboot my computer with the reset button. One of the reasons why I believe it is an audio related issue is because whenever the game locks up, the last sound effect continues to play in an endless loop.
I know my PC configuration is fine: the other OpenGL games I play are Q3, Wolfenstein, UT, Counterstrike... All my other games work fine.
I have all the latest drivers for everything (including windows updates). And I have no problems with any other games. This has to be something with SOF2. I hope Raven can fix this soon, this game looks badass.
HELP!!!

Hi,
My system is almost the same as yours (I have an AthlonXP 2000+, GeForce4 Ti4600 Ultra, 512mb DDR RAM, 2x80GB HDs, Epox 8K7A+, Windows 2000) and fixed my lockup on exit by doing this...
- Latest Detonator Drivers ( http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows2000 ) - Latest VIA 4 in 1 Drivers ( http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1/4in1438(2)v(a).exe ) - Latest AMD AGP MiniPort Driver ( http://www.amd.com/us-en....533.EXE ) - Installed the AMD Registry Fix ( http://www.amd.com/us-en....00.html ) - Latest Creative Audigy drivers from their website
Now it works like a charm!

Not overclocking(CPU&Vid) has seemed to cure my crashing (mostly ) but i think SoF2's so demanding cause its poorly implemented somewhere. IE. RUSHED. personaly i dont blame the programers or QA its the head honchos who are just after the £$$%£ i detest. they spoil a good game every fukin time nowadays! ... |
