i just want to say that although this is an excellent game ( for what i've played so far, ie two levels) the QA is CR@P.  i've never had so many problems with game before until now.  My system is more than adequate yet it crashes all the time, to the point i've given up playing until a patch is released.
my system is
XP1800+
Quadro 2 pro
768 Mb DDR
XP pro
Audigy player
Abit mobo

A pure and simple case of VERY POOR and CHEAP QA which Raven and Activision are responsible for.  My god and to think that activision are the publishers for Doom III, lets hope ID are doing the QA themselves.

Are you overclocked?. I suffer from the crashes as well, and i was overclocked very stable(vid+CPU), no problems with anything else. i set everything back to default Mhz on advice i read in this Forum and it seems to have improved . i say 'seems' because there were spells before when i could play through a few levells or fore a couple of hours without any crashing :0 . time alone will tell. if you are overclocked it would be well worth your time clocking her back a bit  ;) ...

Luck Dude :s3:

PS. whats with the 'Quadro'?. is that one of those proffessional work station thingys?. or is it just the Quadro driver conversion thats shown in a 'sticky' on the MadOnion forum?...

Yeah I agree the game seems good but it does crash miles to much. Funny thing is that some levels crash and some dont. The jungle level ran fine, the train station ran fine, the china town level ran fine but the first level and the one I am on now crashes back to the desk top and looks like I have the brightness would up to full. If I try to load the last saved game it just crashes and gives me an error report saying there was a fault in sof.exe. Funny thing is that if i load a previous save and not the last save it works again for a while.

All I can conclude is that the game is very buggy on some systems more than others. :s5:

Yeah the same 'over-brightness' thing happens to me Dyno, but it rarely happens and its the only problem I've had with SOF2 so I'm afraid I can't agree with you Quyeno.

That overbrightness thing is what i'm talking about, i'll play for about 20 min then crashes back to the overbright desktop with a SOFII.exe error.

Boonierat- yeah the quadro 2 pro is the pro graphics cards not the hacked driver.  my system isn't overclocked either, i've even defrag'd my HD and reinstalled SOFII but stll crashes.
Its definately the game cos i've got Jedi Knight II and MOH:AS and they are absolutely fine.  Personally i reckon its a rushed release and very little QA has been done.

Hi quyeno and all...I both love the game yet was as frustrated by the same sort of error: crashes later on in the game concerning gamex86.dll in the error message.
I did a search on the site, tapping in gamex86.dll and you might find this helpful as I did: numerous references!
What worked for me: a total uninstall, including base files, a reboot...and allowing the default settings of the game's reading of my graphics card.
Result: sorted! The game now growls like a dobermann with your finger up its arse.
(no, I have no prior experience of the latter)
                          Hope this helps,
                                              Zig
