I saw an unofficial patch floating around on the net that goes from 1.03-1.04.  Does this patch help with the lock up problems and what does this fan made patch do?

Aopen AX45-8XN Motherboard
P4 2.4ghz 533 fsb northwood
"1" stick 512mb pc2700 DDR ram
ATI Radeon 9500 128mb video ram
Creative Extigy 24bit sound system (external)
Creative Audigy 16bit sound card (internal)
80gb Hard Drive with 50gb Available

There is absolutely nothing wrong with my system.  CPU temp never wavers above 40c.
ATI Radeon temps have never crossed 50c.

I CANT GET THE GAME TO RUN AT ALL!  It locks up trying to run the TUTORIAL!

Does this sound like a problem system? I have run games that REQUIRE more than SoFII Double Helix.
This is a PROBLEM FOLKS!!  ANYONE IN RAVENVILLE LISTENING??

I received the game as a gift.  I fully intend on having them return the gift.  Maybe I'll try URU, BEYOND MYST.
That runs flawlessly on my wife's system, and it's half of what mine is.

I notice that the last post was in August.  I guess everyone that was having problems used the cd's for target
practice and bought something worthwhile.

IT'S JUNK RAVENSOFT!   ADMIT IT and FIX IT!!

dunno  man?  what do they need to fix?

my syst is similar to yours (acaully a bit less ) and it runs  great
with nothing overclocked :s6:

Intel p4 2 .4/400 cpu
512 meg of pc 2700 ddr ram (333mghz ram)
(samsung cas 2.5 high grade..yep single stick..no heat spreaders)
gigabyte Ga8 Sg667 p4 titan motherboard

http://uk.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_GA-8SG667.htm

(sis 648 chipset..agp 8X is enabled )
built by Ati radeon 9500 pro 128 meg ddr card @stock speeds
(useing ATI cat 3.7drivers ..currently )
creative labs SBlive  value  sound card
netgear fa 311 network adapter
20 gig  ATA 100  Western Digital harddrive
(yep the game is installed to the slower harddrive listed above )
40 gig ATA 133  Maxtor harddrive
Phillups cd burner (8x4x32)
lite-on  cd /dvd drive (48/16X)
400 watt power supply
running Win XP home  with service pak 1 installed and all the updates

so fix what ?

is your power supply under powered ?

what drive   did  ya plug the vid card  power lead into .. if your haveing problems linking it to your harddisk like ATI suggests   , do what i did
connect that power cable to  your cd drive

thats what i did when i had a crappy 300 watt Power supply in my system to  even get any game   or 3d app to run

then i went out and bought the current  Power supply unit i have

also read the manual ..ie...

Turn off  all applications you have running in the backround
SOF 2 will need all the horsepower you have  available

this is especially true with antivirus programs that will eat system resources .. and after all why do ya need the  anti virus program loading up in the backround why your playing single player anyway ?

and also i finished the single player game on my old system  with out a hitch and that only had a  p 3 933 in it and a system that only supported SD ram (pc 133 )
with only a geforce 3 128  meg card  installed  :p

I have a problem similar to a previous post. I can play the game just fine in sp mode all the way up to the prison section. After that, the game no longer allows me to open a saved game but will let me start over from scratch. I have played the game through twice to the same point with the same result under different installs. I do like to save very often and have about 200 saved games in my directory. Any help in how I can keep playing this game would be appreciated.

Thanks,
ParrotBreeder

I have read through most of the posts in this thread, and there seems to be good arguments for both sides, software or hardware.

All I know is this, sof2 runs wonderful for me in MP mode, and runs good in SP mode on the easiest setting.  If I try to play SP on the hardest setting, my comp hard-locks 1-5 minutes into the prague level everytime.

I am an A+ certified tech, built my own system, everything I put (software) on that PC works beautifully, except for sof2 in SP mode on the hardest setting.  Please don't be so naive to tell me that I have a hardware problem when the game runs great in SP on the easy setting, and hard-locks on the hard setting.  I believe that the only difference in the settings is the amount of saves offered, hardest being no saves at all.

All of my MoBo and video and sound drivers are fully up to date.  I have the latest BIOS update too, but here are my system specs in case you are curious:

WinXP Pro-fully updated including DX 9.0c
AMD Athlon 2800+
1 gig Corsair DDR RAM-(2) 512 sticks
1-60 gig Western Digital HDD
1-120 gig Western Digital HDD-for backups
SB Live 5.1 Sound
Asus A7N8X-X MoBo
Abit Siluro GeForce 4 Ti 4400 w/128MB RAM AGP video card
Sony 52X CDROM
HP 12x12x24 burner
AMD approved 300w PS

The problems are far from happening to EVERONE. If you are locking or rebooting, you have a problem and it's not the game.

This is a ridiculous statement that comes from pure ignorance.  I agree with the fact that it isn't happening to EVERYONE, but to place all the blame on the user and dismiss the fact that there may be a problem with the software is asinine.

While there is a possibility that it is hardware related, that does not change the fact that many other things can run on the system without a problem.  I have been experiencing the BSOD in this game right at the beginning of the first level, every time, after installing/updating many system drivers.

I've seen you suggest several times that it could be a power issue.  Nope.  You say that SOF 2 taxes your system more than any other game.  Well, at the time that message was posted, that statement might have been true.  But with 2005 just around the corner and games on the market like Doom 3 and HL 2, this is no longer true.  I myself have gotten these games to work without any problems; this obviously rules out your “hardware taxing” theory.

Now I did see the link that was posted relative to the infinite loop problem with VIA chipsets.  I do in fact have a VIA chipset, so this may be part of the problem.  Regardless, I agree with others in saying that the QA that was involved with the development of this game was horrible.  I understand why you may want to initially blame hardware, but the fact is that it's a combination of both.  There obviously was not enough testing done on this game.  Many people own a MB with an AMD processor and a VIA chipset; failing to test the game on these systems before releasing it is unacceptable.

The other disturbing part is that this issue has existed ever since the game was released, and Raven has failed to come up with a patch to solve the problem.  This shows a lack of concern for its customer base, as well as a lack of ability to develop software properly.  This will discourage many Raven fans that've experienced this problem from purchasing Raven’s software in the future.

I will post my system specs in hopes that someone with a similar system has come up with a solution.

VisionTek GeForce 4 Ti 4400

Hey guys,  Just bought the gold edition myself, and had no troubles up until the temple missions. Suddenly I start getting hard locks. Funnily enough, I have had the same problems with Half Life 2. What I have to do is disable my sound. Everything works fine then (if playing without sound can be called fine!!??).  Valve released a sound driver update for HL2, Iwonder if it's something as simple as this for SOF2?
