Have you actually contacted the official support for SoF2?
Anyone helping in this forum is doing it for free and of their own desire to help others enjoy the game that we enjoy.

I´m seriously startin to feel sad about SoF 2.
I really like the game and i play mp almost every night, since its still simply the best game there is at the moment.
I used to play SoF 1 mp and sp, i had the beta version of SoF 2 long before the game was released in germany.
I couldnt wait to get the original game and ordered the us-version as soon as it came out.
Ever since then i was not able to play sp !
It started with my old pc:
AMD 1333, 256 mb DDR Samsung, Asus MB, geforce 2 mx, terratec x-fire 1024 (of course always with the newest drivers)
This system brought up some temperature problems due to a shitty tower and i also wasnt convinced about the asus-ali MB (OEM crap).
So i invested in a new system:
AMD 2400+, 2x512 mb DDR 333 Infineon cl 2.5 (dual DDR), Asus A7N8X, leadtek geforce 4 ti 4200, blacknoise 380 W power supply, SLK 800 A (still x-fire 1024  and my old drives)
I always get the newest final drivers, i flashed my drives with the newest firmware and i just re-installed WinXP Sp1 100% perfectly.
My System is not runnin overclocked (neither cpu nor leadtek), as i said the newest drivers for all (graphic for example 42.92 final WHQL Candidate).

I enter the game ... and here goes the first crash even before the mission starts (in the cinematic). Ok, still hopeful (since i know pcs are made for crashin)  i reboot and i even make it through the cinematic ... yesssss!!!
Lookin forward to finaly enjoyin this great game and still amazed about the incredible fast loading times of my new system... there goes the next lock-up.  :s9:
I dont know, if lock-up is the correct expression : the game is "stoppin" for 2 or 3 seconds - the sound repeats itself for this time (like "i have to find a way to get up on ... a way to get up on ...a way to get up on) - and if i get lucky continues after that. Sometimes it doesnt "wake up" afterwards and i have to reboot.
Now u could think my system works sluggish - well it defenitely doesnt. All other games installed (e.g. Unreal 2, MoH Spearhead, Hitman 2) are runnin smooth, as well as mp.
I get 10600 points with 3DMark 2001, my cpu temperature has never been over 40°C.

Now i´m askin myself WTF is wrong with this game ??????????
A couple of friends of mine are runnin it without any problems on P4s. Is it an AMD problem ?

Please Help Ravensoft, RamRod or whoever because i´m about to despair and seriously startin to feel the hate.  :(

I am laughing at the long string of people with supposed hardware issues.

I just bought and installed the Gold edition, patched it, and keep all my drivers up to date.  The SP programming is complete, unmitigated horseshit!  I get the same random freezes that sometimes respond to ALT-CTL-DEL, but mostly require a hard reboot.

I have absolutely no problem with any other of the 15-20 latest games that I run.  As far as my supposed hardware being an issue:

AMD XP2700+, Asus A7N8X, Two 512MB sticks of matched Corsair XMS PC-3500 (400MHz) DDR, ATI 9700-Pro (128mb), Audigy-2 Platinum, Plextor 48x CD-RW, two WD-1800-JB  (180GB w/ 8mb cache), sony F-520 22" monitor.  BIOS Temps & Motherboard monitor temps of CPU with my Koolance water cooling never are above 39-C.  Running XP-Pro.

I also have a bare bones installation with all drivers updated that I Ghost imaged for new install testing.  Using that simple image installed, and adding just this one game (+ patched)  results in the exact same random freezing behavior.  It does not matter if I overclock, or set all timings to default.

However, you should at least understand that conservative overclocking with temp. monitoring increases performance with quality components.  You imply that it deteriorates performance, which is another ignorant statement.

I have built many PC's and this one is d*mn near top of the line.  It is just stupid to continue making excuses for this SP bug-ridden game.  Trying to blame it on sticks of RAM, CAS timings, having a bad CD, etc. etc. just shows your own lack of understanding for what causes random crashes like this in so many user setups.

To test your hyposthesis of this game stressing out the system in ways that nothing else before it has done, I can put Quake-3 in MPC Demo & go play BF-1942 without either crashing.  I can run Seious Sam Valley Demo while running UT2003 Botmatch without either crashing.

I wasted time trying various ATI drivers from 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, & Dell's 3.3 catalyst drivers.   My Audigy-2 drivers are the current up to date ones.  I have done all the testing I needed, to now know without any question that this SP programming code is a poorly done job, and Raven should be ashamed for what they are putting their customers through.

Your first response to this many complaints, should be to take responsibility for the poorly written, and poorly tested software.  I see many other bugs in this SP programming with weapons floating in air, visual display randomly going completely black, sound freezing, getting stuck between mapping brushes, etc. etc.

Oh wait...maybe it's my Vantec Stealth 470 Watt Power Supply that is the culprit....yeah right!!

The honorable thing to do is for Raven to admit that they screwed the pooch on the coding and testing, and are hard at work putting together a 1.04 patch to fix their SP disaster.

This will follow them with previously loyal fans like a Chief Inspector Hans Blix-Clusoe giving a Disneyworld tour in Iraq for years to come.

Doh....I'm not a nube.  Of course I did all the obvious things that should be done, including checking with that utility (which in itself is absolutely an insane game install step for anyone to have to deal with--since the installer vise should have checked the files during the install process.)

Just to satisfy any that think it might be something so simple...and cannot fathom the possibility that it could ever be the poorly coded SP game:
:s4:  :s4:

:s4:  :s4:
I read the other mostly lame excuses that have been talked about here, short of the hyper-ignorant suggestions about jerking out RAM sticks from people who obviously don't know the difference between a North or Southbridge.

Here I'll make it real simple for ya.  If it quacks like a duck, smells like a duck, walks like a duck....it's a duck.....hence: "The freezing problem is due to the poorly written SP code."

Other evidence of my allegation is that you never see the kind of brush errors, weapons and dead guys floating in air, SP allies typing on a keyboard that is not even close to their fingers, etc. etc. if it was a quality coded game.

This is just garbage programming, and it should not be covered up on this forum.  Raven should be ashamed to have released this in this condition, and to not have patched it to work yet.

I can't remember the last game that caused such widespread freezing.  Video/sound problems/stuttering maybe....but not total freezes....and those other games (i.e. BF-1942) issued patches in short order.

Yeah, well I think you and the countless thousands of others did just get lucky. Uncle Mike obviously sounds like he knows what he is talking about as far as trying all the options and troubleshooting his system. I personally bought SOFII over six months ago; went through many of the suggestions in this same post, and could not play the game for more than five minutes without it locking. I came back to the board today to see if maybe a new patch may have come out for this game yet.......I can't believe it hasn't.

I have a very reliable 2.4 Ghz P4.blah, blah, blah....it's a Dell 8250..Dell goes through quite a bit of compatibility testing with their computers and they have earned quite a good reputation for their reliability. So it's not like I built it from scratch and configured something wrong. Oh yeah....I have a Geforce4 Ti 4200 64MB, and an Audigy 2, 512 MB ram...####.....I really don't want to list everything.....latest drivers, etc........I think it's a waste of time.

I agree with Uncle_Mike......something is wrong with this game. And I DO CARE that every other of DOZENS of games play just fine on my computer.....it shows that the computer is set up well and runs well with any programs that have been decently coded. We shouldn't have to pull our hair out trying to figure out this one game that obviuosly still has "countless hundreds" if not "thousands" of people still experiencing Hard-locks even after the "Gold" patch....they've probably just given up, like I have.
