Thank You for your reply.  If I remember correctly, it read DRIVER_IRQL_UNABLE TO LOCATE DRIVER...I am pretty sure it was something about not finding a driver.  I normally try to shut down my computer before I get a blue screen after a game crash. I am sorry if this sounds strange.  In my particular case, my computer hard drive gets corrupted for some reason and sends my swap file towards the middle portion of the hard drive.  Sometimes, even further outward.  I will have to recreate symptom by letting my game crash to the blue screen completely and get you a copy of what the whole BSOD logs to get accurate information for you so I do not miss inform you...heh, I just got done reformatting today too.  No problem there tho, another reformat will not hurt me   ???  please give me a day or two to do this.

Thank You

Spike,

I got another error message today and have jotted down a stop error code 0x0000007E.  The error pointed to a driver Ctaud2k.sys.  Any ideas  :(

Test....If this goes through it is only because I have tried and tried to post a meaningful, long message about ten times and it has never made it through...........

So, this is a posting test.

A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. There are numerous individual causes for this problem, including hardware incompatibility, a faulty device driver or system service, or some software issues. Check Event Viewer for additional information.

Ctaud2k.sys is a file for a creative labs sound card driver

so the problem looks to be with ur sound card, either get the latest driver, or if u have the latest get an earlier one.

Okay, good...a message finally made it through to the server.

Well, I thought I'd just post and say that I also fit into this category.......my computer locks about one minute into the first mission in Prague....just freezes in a weird brownish color that resembles the desktop....it is not quite the desktop.

All other games work just fine on my computer....Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Hitman 2: Silent Assasin, and many, many others.

I have: a new Dell 8250 with a 2.4 Ghz P4, 512 MB of PC1066 RDRAM, Geforce4 4200 Ti 64MB with Detonator 40.72 drivers, Soundblaster Audigy 2 with updated drivers, 80 Gig HD with 60 Gigs free, completely defragged, DirectX 9.0.

I just got this game.............and this is the third patch to come out? Why are these problems still happening?? Nobody has figured out what is causing it yet?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot........I don't know if MultiPlayer works or not. I haven't tried it because I have no interest in playing MP of any game before I've already played completely through the SP campaign and gotten to learn the controls, etc.

Spike,

Thank You, once again for your reply.  I will try an older driver and see how everthing goes. Oh yeah, any advice on how to make my way around the ship mission...heh, there sure looks like there are a whole bunch of guards on the cargo ship.

Thank You,

maybe the programmers will fix the game so that people don't have to remove 1 stick of ram in order to play...if that doesn't sound ridiculous then I don't know what is.  I really love the idea that it is a hardware issue even though the computers work great on everything else.

Hardware is useless without software..and the hardware will only do what the software tells it to do.  So to say it is a hardware issue alone would only suggest that people have defective products..which would show up on more than one application.

It is software related...and how sof2 controls the hardware.  The fact that people have to remove a stick of ram in order to get it to work, sounds like sof2 has a real memory manager issue.

I too have stopped playing...due to the frustration..I have replaced my entire system with new parts....I have about 6 fans cooling it.  I have noticed that most people are having problems with high end computers..which may be a result of sof2 not incorporating the new technology.  This would need a patch.

Most hardware conflicts show up immediately when you try to run a game...not after 10 minutes of play...however after 10 minutes of play if you have a freeze..it does make sense that it is a memory management problem.  All my error codes point to a memory location.  I really don't care to list my specs..but I couldn't resist contributing to the discussion about hardware vs software.

One gentlemen found that win98se worked for him..and you want to know why...it was hardware.  Oh wait that makes absolutely no sense...oh well..it is hardware.

All benchmark programs like 3dmark03 professional work my system much more than sof2.  When i'm getting 2 fps on that benchmark..my system still plays...but 125 fps on sof2...and my system crashes...must be hardware.

I went out the other day and picked SOF2 Gold edition and C&C Generals up @ Worse Deals (Best Buy).  Fired up C&C Generals and have played for many hours non-stop, with statisfaction that any good software developer aims for.

As I needed a break from C&C Generals, I installed SOF2 and fired up.  I was as giddy as a school boy with a new bee bee guy shotting the neighbor's windows.  Much to my disappointment, the game locked up in 30 to 60 seconds in the Hotel Prague level.  Not to be out done, I tried again getting farther in the level this time.  I believe it was around the crate area, when the game decide to puke on me.  I tried this 3 to 4 times, before I said, must be a "HARDWARE" issue and installed in onto another PC.

Again I experienced the same problem as I and every user in this post.  I tried all the suggested tips and updated ALL of my drivers (which was done weeks ago) on both machines and have yet to enjoy this POS game.  What gives .. hmm let's think about it.  But first I must rant and rave further.

What's even more interesting, is that both my PCs have 1 stick of memory in it.  I've changed those modules with new sticks, even swapped them from one PC to the other. And yet it seems to be a "HARDWARE" issue.  NOT!!!!!!!!

Let's just get to the chase and stop wasting everyone's time Raven.  It's your crappy code, so fix it.  Don't point your finger at the users.  Sure there are some dumb Joes smoes that buy their PCs from Wal-Mart and have issues, but for the majority of gamers, this is NOT the case.  Put your staff back into their dark 4'x6' room, fire up their PCs and make them write some serious code that they can finally admit they are proud of.  Not this junk you state is great and all wonderful.

Oh what are my system specifications?  Does it really matter .. nope.  If I can run every game on this planet at this time without any complications, then it sure the f&$K isn't a "HARDWARE" problem.  Anyone reading this message that is thinking of buying this game, heed my words.  Run, run away, run fast and don't look back!!!!  Save your money and buy a real game like Generls, Unreal II, UT2k3 or Paintball (hey at least it runs, installs and plays).

If all else fails Raven, I hear that John Romero is looking for a new job.  At least his one and only game that he published after he left id ran and installed without this type of crap.   Furthermore, I will NEVER again buy any title published by Activision, nor Raven.  This is madness that simply can not be tolerated.  Anyone willing to work this out, without Raven admitting it's their issue, needs a brain transplant.

But wait avid reader of Raven's Forum board, it gets better.  I am now stuck with this crappy game, as Best Buy does not accept any returns on open games/software.  What to do with a game that does not run on hundreds if not thousands of PCs ... Hmm.  There's a topic that should be started in this forum.  "What to do with your $40 SOF2 coasters that won't run on your $1,500 PC"  Send them to Osama and let him figure it out.

Bring on the flaming posts, spamming emails and what not.  But in the end you know that I am right.  This has to be the finest example of POS code known to gamers at this time.
