ell it does....kinda

The grenade laucnher on the OICW is guided to it's target by the laser and computer system on board the weapon.  With the intention being that the laser tells the grenade how long a fuse it has.  So that once you lase your target and pull the trigger the grenade should detonate after the exact range to your target.  The intention being, not to detonate in the target face, but to detonate just above their head etc.

Or it can be fired manual like the m203.

Disclaimer:  I'm not a weapons expert for H&K, just read it on a web page somewhere :)

It's not "guided". It's a smart round only to the effect that it has the timed fuse in it. You lase the target, it sets the fuse and you fire. You don't have to be looking through the scope though. Once you lase the target and it sets the fuse, the fuse it set for that length of time until you either lase again or fire the round. And yeah, it can be fired to detonate on contact. But overall, it's a 20mm HE round. And this is another one I have a problem with the physics on. This is a powerful round. One that that won't require it to be fired like the 40mm (ie, mortar style). It'll have a fairly flat trajectory (except for the fusing system, it's similar to the round used in the Vulcan Gatling gun). The muzzle velocity on the 40mm is under 300ft/s, the 20mm will be 8-10 times that ;).
