Hi.
IMO, Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix is not that great. The more I play it, the more it seems to dissapoint. I cant say specifically what it is, its just missing something?
The graphics are highly overrated! If you can acctually get a frame rate that will allow u to enjoy playing the game without everything on the lowest settings. After the "reality Gore factor" wears off..there's not much left to excite me here. The Columbian jungle is pretty kool, but again with terrible frame rates for just about everybody, so how enjoyable is it?
IMO, MOHAA is far superior graphically, the AI allmost as good, way more atmosphere, and generally a better game, even without blood and gore.Maybe if we all had $500 video cards, SOF2 would look like its supposed too!!.....Come on guys, this is just unacceptable.
Funny...Look what raven did with Jedi Knight 2, Graphically, very good, less buggy, beter performing.....and oh yea..lightsaber combat is the ultimate in 3rd person combat....it ROCKS. They forever changed 3rd person style gaming with that game.
Which brings me to my final point. With the release of many major game titles this year, (MOHAA, RTCW, JK2, etc) IMO, Soldier of Fortune does not stand up to the competition. The real performance issues were having has alot to do with it though. None....I said none, of the other big releases had these kinds of performance issues. If we could just play the game as it was supposed to run on our better than average systems, maybe I would have a better opinion. I am looking at the overall picture here, not just the kool "gore" factor
So...am I out to lunch, or do any of u feel similar. Remember, look at the overall picture....graphics, performance, atmosphere, suspence, crashing related bugs, menu bugs,...etc.
I paid $69.99 Canadian for this game.....Hmmm....Was it worth it??? |

.....but the multiplayer!
JK2 was superb. Not a bug one that I noticed, ran very well, good graphics, and pretty fun gameplay, though I'm not into Star Wars.
I found MOH-AA graphics about the same (kind of bland), gameplay annoying and slow, and the ending? It just abrubtly stops in what feels like the middle of the game. It is SO short. MOH was a HUGE let down.
RTCW, much, much better graphics than both MOH and SOF2 and a good game to boot. IT was also a system killer, just like SOF2 though. |

Generally speaking the interest for Single-Player FPS games is all but dead within 4 months of having the game. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is ultimately what will continue to sell FPS games in the long run. Add in customized mods and you'll extend the game into whole new avenues. Think about this, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament and Quake3 can still be found on store shelves, years after release and people still buy them. While some people still play stock HL, UT and Q3, others have moved off into mods like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, TacOps and Urban Terror. I am excited about the possibilities of what is to come in the future. SOF2 is great multiplayer wise now, imagine what it will be like once the skinners, coders and mappers start kicking out their work. Undoubtedly there will need to be a patch or two to correct some issues, however Raven has shown a willingness to get involved with the modding community and even providing a SDK within a week of releasing the game. With the level of talent and imagination that there is out there, the only place this can go is up. Cheers, TB |
