Hello!
First of all I'd like to say that this game is awesome.
But on the other hand I'm a little disapointed.
Look at this (beta) screenshot:

This is a screenshot which is a few months old.

Look at the shadow and how nice it adapts to the surface!
Also in some other jungle screenshots you can see how the shadow of the arm is placed on the leg when someone is crouching. Just freakin' awesome.
Why isn't that in the game?
That's one of the things I looked out for!!!

Now the shadows are ugly black sprites.
They look good, but they don't look good when near a wall or when on stairs.

I've also seen those "nice shadows" in the beta I think. (on TV).

Why isn't it in the game!?
And if it is in the game - then how can I enable them?
Or do I need a geforce4 for that?

I have a geforce3 ...

Mmh ...
After some trying I found out that
cg_shadows 2
in console gets the job done :)

Allthough it looks a bit buggy, they flicker sometimes or completely disapear.
But I like them much more!

Oh well ... looks like this issue is already fixed!

cg_shadows 2

Everybody should try it!

I turned shadows off. They looked terrible. They are all solid black and they float all over the place. Very poorly done.

There are three graphics options for the shadows, Blob (the type Garrison is talking about I *think*) Detailed (like the ones in the screenshot) and none.

I thought the shadows looked ok. They also saved my ass a # of times.

No I tried all the settings. Maybe it's my video card (GF2 Ultra) but I never saw any shadows like the ones in that screen shot. Mine were solid black on the highest setting. Blob only shows a round circle below the character.

The cg_shadows 2 command produces a different effect than any of the three options in the scalability menu.  They look better than any of the options regularly available, when it is working correctly.  A lot of times it looks pretty stupid.  Try going playing the tutorial and going to the firing range using cg_shadows 2.  Sam looks real weird.

Hopefully, Raven will repair this and fully implement it in the future.

i think the command to turn the brightness of the shadows down is cg_stencilbits "whatever number" i think the default is 8. Try that i might be wrong. let me know but i think thats the one in quake 3.

I think those shadows look very nice, when they work ok!

I've never seen it before that I can see the shadow of someone's head on his shoulder :woot:

But it look ugly too - especialy with dead people :)

using the default shadow option (not the blob one the projection one) i get the shadow's above the person, or if they are sitting coming straight out from there waist at waist level and it looks rubbish using the cg_shadows 2 it looked a bit better but still not great :(
