I can vouch for that.
I run a fairly highend board (soyo dragon+) that has the cmedia 6-channel audio. The first thing I did was diasable that pos and put my sblive back in.

uhh...  excuse me, but thats bullshit.

If every other game in the world (except yours) runs perfectly fine, then it is not my soundcard.  And considering the fact that I have had many many problems with soundblaster and other cards (IRQ sharing issues, bad drivers, etc...), no soundcard is without its problems.

The C-Media (I forget the model number) is an awesome sound device (Dolby 5.1, etc...) and runs better and clearer than any PCI soundcard I have ever owned.

I am sorry, but "get a better sound card" is not a valid fix.  The problem is not my sound card.  The problem is this game's crappy drivers, and a lack of compatibility testing.  And shame on Raven for that.  There are a WHOLE LOT of other ASUS A7V266-E users out there using the same aduio chip.  You guys should have tested compatibility before you released the game.

If all you can contribute is "get a better soundcard, dude..." then please keep your replies to yourself.

If this is the only solution that Raven can provide me with, I am going to return the game and never buy another Raven product again.

This reply is in regards to the use of the drive not how it affects the game.

I strongly suggest that you and anyone that uses their cd burner drive and or dvd rom drive purchase a high speed cd rom drive for games and music.

You can get a highspeed cd tom drive for like 40 bucks unlike your burners and rom drives that cost more.

Reason:  All drives come with an on power use time.  Like a mtbf.  Using your rom or dvd drive is only depleating the life expectancy sooner/faster.  Now considering that SOF installs and then does not use the drive ( supposedly ) this should not matter.

I just thought I would throw this in here.  it seemed like a good place for this information. :)

Why is it that everyone is missing the point...

Game works fine in Multiplayer

Game works fine in Random Missions

GAME CRASHES CONSTANTLY IN SINGLE PLAYER

that has nothing to do with heat, has nothing to do with install (because I have uninstalled / reinstalled / manually copied files over) has nothing to do with me running AMD or sound in EAX.

If all the reasons to this problem everyone has presented thusfar were legit, then explain to me why I can play both multiplayer and random missions perfectly!!!

Ok, using a burner / dvd as a primary gaming drive may not be the best thing for the drive unit as far as life expectancy, but I don't plan on using these drives past 18 months.

Johny Rico...  did you install the OpenAL?  That resolved my EAX issues, so it might resolve any other sound issues.  OpenAL is in the EXTRAS catagory on CD 1.

Interesting side now, the game works fine on my laptop, just the graphics look like #### and I have since finished the game in Consultant mode...

Strange that my laptop which is far less inferrior to my desktop can play the game single player but my monster PC crashes.

openAL...  nope, haven't tried it.  I will give it a shot when I get home tonight.

...but my soundcard doesn't do EAX anyway.  Just DirectSound.
