If running a server directly from SOF2 Runner you can click the run button to launch your server. One advantage is to use the server messaging functionality, broadcast up to two messages to your server at pre-determined intervals.

An alternative is to export a batch file and then run the server with that. One advantage of using a batch file is that you can utilize a server monitoring program called ServerDoc that will restart your game server should it go down, it uses the batch file to automatically restart the server.

Nice job. I've always done it the old fashioned way. Might just check it out. ;)

Never having run a a server, and being new to FPS games I always wonder about how they are setup. Why is there no graphical interface for all those commands?  Unless I missed something, just wonder why there has to be so much data set by hand, per say.   Is it just me being lazy or what? Or possibly not understanding the whole thing....      no flaming old people...  I will hit you with my cane afterwards :)
thanks!

I've had great results with ServerDoc.  At the start of this year I spent 51 days in South America.  All the while I was gone ServerDoc kept my SOF1 server running (ok, it only crashed once, but without ServerDoc it would have sat idle for a month).  Only problem I had was an error dialog would pop up and it would have to be acknowledged (click "ok") before ServerDoc would start the server again.  I wrote a very simple program that did nothing but check top level windows and when it found the error dialog it would send it a "ok button clicked message".  End of problem.

Just loaded ServerDoc on my PC to try out before I load it up on our server. Looks good...Becasue I would like to run our server at 7am -11:30pm Pacific to save on people outside of the US using the server bandwidth while we all sleep (sorry to those outside of US).

Thanks for the link will try out...Yeah the old wake up turn it on thing is what I do now.

This is the best guide.  Thank you.  As i stated in my email, my server does not show up in the in-game browser some times.  People can connect through the IP.  I talk to a lot of server admins in #sof2 having the same problem.
Thank you for your help

Server Guide Update:

Aphextwin's latest version of SOF2 Runner now includes the ability to turn off unwanted weapons and the ability to disable certain types of voting. I have the MM1 and RPG disabled (but the ammo is still there, just to watch someone wait for a weapon that will never come), and I have RMG voting disabled, due to the Linux bug.

Sample NoVote.cfg:

// SOF2 No Vote Configuration File
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// File Created by: SOF2 Runner ver: June 01 2002 beta 0.7.5
// File Created On: Sunday, June 02, 2002 at 3:52:48 PM
// Aphextwin@gameadmins.com
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

// This file is automatically executed by SoF2MP.exe

seta novote_rmgmap "1"
// EOF
