Hi Folks,

I have read a few opinions on the AI that run the gambit from great to sucks.

So I thought a vote on the AI might be interesting!

Here is what my experience with the AI was like:

I really am not terribly impressed so far in single player. I played the demo and thought that the baddies were discovering me way too easily. For instance, in the boat level on the demo, despite being crouched or prone and in a shadow, while only peaking over the deck, a tango in the cargo area spotted me and started firing. Now with all the light he had around him, with me in a shadow and with rain falling in buckets - well - you get the idea.  I could repeat this over and over - so it was not just a fluke thing. I suspect that the AI must not be taking everything into account when calculating whether or not it sees someone.

Of course, you can't expect the AI to calculate 'everything'. However, I would expect it to account for things like, amount of target visible, atmospherics (fog, rain, etc), distance, light and shadow, etc. When detected in the scenario I describe, it would seem to make more sense for that person to call to me or investigate since at that distance they could not tell if I am friend or foe.

From the SP game, the second level was a bit frustrating. You start in the alley and head off for the hotel. Wait for the two guards to chat then split up. Once a guard is alone, I sneak up and knife him. But somehow his buddy - who is around the corner somewhere - comes running back and starts shooting at you. Huh?

On the upside, the AI is pretty smart about taking cover and trying to execute what look like flanking moves. However, I was hoping to try and finesse my way through some of these missions and found that they quickly degenerated to shooting galleries.

I think the AI is pretty good. They are too aware of whats happening, but when you get into fights, they can hold their own for the most part. It really pisses me off when they throw smoke grenades and then come charging into the room ;P

I have only seen the SP Demo but from what I have seen the AI is brilliant.

I agree with that, their are times when they shouldn't see you and they seem to have the sense like spiderman :D.

I really hate the smoke rushing too ha ha...hate it even more when they throw my own nade back at me he he.

I play the game in consultant difficulty so what ive seen is the best the ai can get in sof 2 and so far im impressed, the only thing id say is that often they kill themself with there own grenades, and have no concept of the "role" the nade they are armed with has, for instance, there throw a flashbang at you and run at you (so they get stunned too) and also they will throw smoke nades at you as if they think it will kill you like a frag grenade would. Im pretty certain the AI is not programmed to understand what each nade does, im sure when you see one throw a smoke, they dont do it to give emself cover, they just do it thinking it will kill you.

I agree...It would be nice if you could use some of that cover and/or darkness and have them not see you.

I just wanted to say I agree with you guys and the AI is really smart and fun too you learn to deal with the grenades soon after you get your ass kicked too often.  Almost finished with the game and I noticed something really amazing.  On the map 'shop5' there is a catwalk system you must crawl through and you see these different AI teams fighting it out.  The shop seems to always win but it's just so cool to watch, trust me it's worth watching so load it up on the console.  People go on about the friendly AI in the jungle which is badass too but this is even another step up.

Pirate they aren't invincible if you shoot them. :) Of course then they immediately kill you. :(
